Bill,

No experience with the high torque starters. I still use the originals in my 
3,4 and 6.

But the door latch may just be in the shut position. So maybe all you need to 
do is grab the inside handle and open the door and then try to shut the door. 
If that doesn't work, I am guessing the latch on the door is stuck. Maybe some 
WD-40 or silicone spray will loosen it up.
