There is a test that any radiator shop can do for you, where they look for
combustion gases in the radiator. Proof of a combustion leak into the water
jacket (though it could be a cracked head rather than a leaking head
gasket).
Mine charged less than $20 last time I had them do it. But I liked the idea
so much that I bought the tool.
