There is a row of bolts with special screwdriver heads on each side of the
trunk lid, in the drip rail. All of those bolts except the rearmost on each
side, go into captive nuts in the fender. The rearmost bolts screw into
those pieces of strap steel. The steel is positioned so the little bend on
the other end also presses against the lip, holding the fender against the
body just above the rear tail lights.
