Looks Italian. Was it rear engine or could you tell?

=20

Its funny =E2=80=93 last week here in Dallas I saw a rear engine car =
that definitely was not a Karmen Ghia. Again, thought it was Italian =
but it took a turn and disappeared.

Driving colleagues through the small streets in La Jolla in late =
February, I saw an interesting vintage sports car oncoming. Grabbed a =
couple of bad shots before it got out of sight. =20

=20

But exactly what is it? I can't really even offer a guess...
