Nope, not in a green Lucas box; flange and nut were original size.

Longer studs might not be a good solution either; the ends of the studs are=
pretty close to the pulley edge. Even with the original studs, there isn=
=E2=80=99t room to get the nuts between the stud ends and the pulley, until=
you pull the pump out a bit from it=E2=80=99s installed position.

Hi Randall,

My pump also was from TRF =E2=80=93 was yours also in a green Lucas box?=C2=
=A0 =C2=A0I appreciate buying a new pulley will likely solve the one proble=
m but not the additional thickness of the mounting flange which could be so=

FWIW, the replacement pump I got from TRF fit perfectly.

One thing to watch for, though, the pulley needs to be a very snug fit on t=
he shaft.=C2=A0 If your old pulley will go on with just your fingers, you s=
hould either replace it, or you can try one of the Loctite =E2=80=9Cretaini=
ng compounds=E2=80=9D.=C2=A0 I=E2=80=99ve had good luck with RC609, but the=
y make one that Is thicker and fills larger spaces.

But the new pulley from TRF also fit as it should, no Loctite needed.

Subject: [TR] TR2/3/4 Water Pumps

Currently doing a frame up on our early TR2, I decided to replace the water=
pump which although working and not leaking wasn=E2=80=99t as smooth turni=
ng as it should be. =C2=A0=C2=A0The original pump (with grease fitting) had=
been replaced prior to my ownership with a Quinten-Hazel (QH) version =C2=
=A0which appears to be dated 1978.=C2=A0 I believe the pulley present is or=
iginal or at least original style.

My problem is the Lucas-boxed 4 vane pump I ordered as a replacement has si=
zing issues.=C2=A0=20

The mounting flange is 1/16=E2=80=9D thicker than the QH pump.=C2=A0 The co=
nsequence of this is the nuts do not tighten fully over the studs leaving I=
suspect about a 1/16=E2=80=9D depression.=C2=A0 The second problem is with=
the nyloc nut that holds the pulley on.=C2=A0 This nut is about twice the =
diameter of the originals and so thick it doesn=E2=80=99t come close to eng=
aging the nyloc feature.=C2=A0 The washer supplied is also very thick and r=
eplacement with a thinner version might help but not enough.

Anyone else experienced this?=C2=A0 Solutions?

Comments appreciated.

Cheers,

Brian
