Dear All,

Re: Moving the dates for eligability

Here in the UK, the Vintage Sports Car club was set up in 1935 to cater
for owners of pre 30 cars (termed vintage over here). Shortly after the
war the membership was expanded to include other pre-war cars that were
considered either sporting or quality built, in both caes they were to be
made in the vintage manner. These later cars are PVTs (Post Vintage
Thoroughbreads.

To this day, the rules have not changed are nor has the club. We run over
30 events a year. Most are full of entries if not oversusscribed. Race
meetings typically have 200+ entries into a 10/11 race programme on one
day. We do have Bentley/Bugattis/Alfas/ERAs etc running all the time (a
recent off road trial had three Bugattis entered).

The VSCC has allowed other clubs to concentrate on later years. We
concentrate on what we like. Membership is constant (or increasing,
cuurently 6000) because the cars do not disappear or get retired because
their grids are being outdated/classed. The club has firmly stuck to
vintage being pre '30.

In contrast the Vintage Motor Cycle Club has used a moving date of 25
years old. Originally the club was dedicated to early bikes of great
interest. Now the majority of the membership are concentrating on late 50s
models. The competition scene however, is now starting to attract
Japanesse 2 Stroke bikes of hte late 60s. It is almost impossible to
imagine a 20s bike now being competative.

I believe they are very envyous of our position, perhaps the club scene in
the USA needs to stop moving its deadline too?
