I have a lot of spark scatter also, using a pretty new 23D. The problem
appears to be right in the design of the advance mechanism. I've made up a
locked distributor but haven't tried it yet. Wear in the upper bushing of
the drive shaft is the classic cause, but mine isn't worn! I think that
slop in the bit that the cam is machined onto, that slips over the main
shaft and is controlled by the advance springs and weights, is the culprit.I
get at least 3 -5 deg of scatter, and time to the middle of the range. How
bad is yours?

I wonder if the drive gear is partially to blame for scatter????? I'm using
a gear cam drive with almost no backlash, so there's no chain slop.

You goin to Mosport next weekend? I'll be there.
