My 1600 Alfa developed a high speed miss (7000-7500rpm) toward the end of
last season and it's taken till now to diagnose the problem.

Previously we had replaced every component of the electrical system piece by
piece, plugs, wires, coil, distributor, battery - no luck.

Then we started on the fuel system, fuel cell pickup, lines, fuel pump
pressure, vacuum leaks, jets and finally carbs - no luck

So, figured perhaps it was a valve adjustment problem, no solution there.

Running out of ideas ? I sure was. You can imagine the hours and hours of
testing and DNF's to get the point of finally putting it on a dyno with a
pro at the helm.

The solution, a faulty connection under the dash. Corrosion had built up
causing a drop in voltage to the coil under heavy demand.

The lesson, hire a professional right away and don't settle for 40 year old
wiring under your dash.

Don Queen (watch out, I'm really fast now.)
