gear oil.   grease was a cheap fix for cars with leaky steering gear seals a
long time ago.  although you might see gear oil that is very old drying out
apearing like grease.    the grease does not get onto the recirculating
balls in the block.   after a bit of use you would end up with a very sloppy
and worn steering gear box(not to mention extremly frustrated!).  with new
pittman shaft bushings and pittman shaft seal, and steering shaft seal you
will have a steering gear that you can adjust and be able to keep lubricants
in.
