Subject: Support campaign for Steve Earle: Historics contract

Hello fellow vintage racer; In case you are not aware of it Steve Earle's
contract is up with Laguna Seca Raceway (now Mazda Raceway) and there is a
possibility that he may not be able to negotiate a new one, and the raceway
itself will take over the Monterey Historics. There was a short article in the
September 17th issue of AutoWeek on page 6. The title of the article is,
"Monterey Historics in Dire Straights After 28 Years?", by Mark Vaughn. The
article can be accessed at www.autoweek.com; look to the left of the screen,
under services and go to "archive search". You will have to register - it is
painless and non intrusive if you wish it to be. Search for 'Steve Earle",
"Monterey Historics" or the title of the article. The details of these
negotiations are not our business, but our voices can be heard in support.

We are suggesting a letter writing/e mail message campaign in support of Steve
and Debbie. As participants who have put our trust and loyalty in him to
produce not only what is considered by many to be the best of the world class
vintage racing events, it is his vision and philosophy that has kept us safe;
provided the interest to preserve, run and protect the wide range of vintage
racing cars; and gave us some of the best August memories of our lives. Their
lack of leadership would be an incredible loss to us, the Monterey Peninsula
and vintage racing fans everywhere.

Following is a list of web sites that you may choose from or use all of them
or add others that are legitimate. No one is going to dictate what your
messages should say, but please keep them clean and polite. You may want to
relay the distance you travel, the vacation time you reserve, whatever is
important for you to say. Use the example that Steve and Debbie set
for us - make it a class act!

We have been told by local merchants that the Historics weekend is one of,
if not the largest revenue weekends of the year of the year. Even though
the local governments may be aware the Monterey Historics has a major financial
impact, we do not know if they realize that this is a product of one man's
imagination and decision to host a "weekend of racing". Every major event
(not including Pebble Beach of course) has grown out of and around the
Historics. And they have Steve Earle to thank for it. We want to try to keep
this under some kind of control so that we all do not end up getting multiples
of the same messages sent in circles! I am starting it by sending this e mail.

I have no idea how to keep track of it but let's give it a go. Let's try
adding to a list of names at the bottom of the one your forward. If everyone
adds their name and the persons they sent it to, maybe we can eliminate some
of the duplication. If someone has an easier, better way please give it a go.

This needs to go coast to coast so hit your club contacts and any
sponsors you may have contact with plus those racers that come from other
countries.

So here we go!!
