Subject: IS ANYBODY OUT THERE II

You'al might be interested to know that my query several days ago
solicited eleven responses. Several more I would guess are there but
didn't respond. The most common comment was to subscribe to the TRIUMPH
list but one person added the VTR list was used mainly for member to
member correspondance rather than car talk. Sounds reasonable so in
that spirit I would like to propose that we begin a dialogue on a VTR
subject that I have heard discussed among members for years. That is
the pros and cons of getting The Vintage Triumph on a concrete, four
times a year schedule, no matter what it takes. Would it really benefit
the club as much as many seem to think. Some of the pros I have heard
are: It would put membership on a true year to year basis; Many more
member contributions would come in if it had definite publication and
contribution dates; Information would be much more timely; The club
could do true budgeting with a reasonably steady cash flow
anticipation; There would be room for much more original material as
more issues would be published(I have been a member since 86 and
recieved 20 issues or 2 a year; We would start gaining members instead
of losing them (I'm not sure of the validity of this as I don't think
comparative membership numbers have been released for years); and the
more good Triumph mags the better. Some of the cons are that publishing
a mag with a volunteer staff is quite a task and can't alway run on a
scheduled basis; It would take a professonal publisher to do it on a
scheduled basis and we don't want to turn TVT over to non-members; and
it's really not that important.
As you probably can tell I have my own opinion but that is not
important. The important thing is do the members feel there is a
problem.
Lets talk. Perhaps we can generate something for the officers to
discuss and bring to the membership in Ft Worth.
Thanks,
Bob
