I am also a fan of the old way, maybe it's the Luddite in me or the influen=

Paul & Steve - I am with you and sent my vote to Allen. Most of what I repl=
y is for the list, although very little, and if I want to send something pr=
ivately I can chose to do so very easily. Lets stay as we were and all mai=
l is group sent and you personally have to change the name to send a privat=
e mailing. By the way, for me it is harder to remember to change the send =
to when I want to do a group mailing so I now send a private mailing and th=
en have to go back and resend to the list. Just a small problem when you g=
et to be an old phart and forget somebody changed the way you do business.=

I am with Steve on this. If you want a private conversation you can still
have that and those are fine for you to take off line. I am for the Group
reply as I have a big DELETE button on my keyboard and I can use that if I
don't have time or interest in a thread.

My vote is for reply to go to the list. 99% of my replies are for=20
the list. The conversation is taking place on the list, and I'm=20
participating in it, like this one! It's looking like I'm in the=20
minority on this, though. It's not a huge deal for me. As I said, I=20
just hit "reply all" and delete what I don't want.

I don't really understand why Allen's experiment should have caused=20
you such problems. I certainly didn't get any "extra" copies. Just=20
one of each one sent. I forwarded Allen's email to myself as an=20
experiment. It took maybe 30 seconds to send and then less than 5=20
seconds to receive back. The "up" direction is typically slower than=20
the "down" direction on broadband connections like mine. With a=20
slower connection like dial-up, it will take a lot longer of=20
course. If that's what you have, you have my sympathies.

Some email programs have the option to not download files greater=20
than a specified size. Or sometimes you can leave attachments on the=20
server by default. Then if you really want to see it, you can click=20
on it and have it download. I'm not sure what Thunderbird has. It=20
might be worth checking into if this is a common problem for you.
