Front bumper sheared off both frame attachments Large front nut holding wishbone swivel on the right is flattened and scuffed Remarkably intact front end, including sway bar, a-arms, steering arms, kingpins, etc., with no evidence of twisting or displacement. Right front wheel jammed against rear of fender and fender resting on top of front shock. A gap at the bottom of the radiator between the rubber air dam and back of the radiator, about an inch an a half wide on the right, no gap on left. (air dam is bolted in place) The right front engine mount is sheared off . . . still in contact, but the front edge of the frame (rubber) side of the mount just meets the back edge of the motor side. The front of the rt front fender is buckled but the gap in front of the door is maintained and the door works fine. It looks to me that the wishbone swivel and its attachment to the cross member took full impact, which must have buckled the body. The car isn't on a lift, but crawling under it I suspect the buckle is just lateral to the starter where the "frame" runs upward at a 60 degree angle just in front of the firewall. Bolt centers for the four bolts are not the same as standard air manifold. That stud underneath does not go directly to the saddle on the intake manifold. Instead there is a fitting that has an offset to which the stud in the air manifold attaches, then the fitting is bolted to intake manifold. This fitting is not illustrated in Moss catalogue, and I can't find it in the TD service parts book for TD or MkII parts. If you do not have it, one should be easy enough to make. It provides the approx 1/2 inch offset needed. On TD3 21934 the inner pump is earthed into the harness with what appears to be black wire, then the outer pump is earthed to inner pump. I've seen pumps that are not earthed, but seems to me that the electric path is uncertain if not earthed with a wire, as that would be done through the fuel line and a filter in line would break the circuit. Tank sending unit is not earthed with its own wire, but somewhere the tank is earthed. A club member recently chased down an inoperative fuel light to his tank not having the wire; a wire to chassis solved his problem. Sorry, I didn't see what he did. Original handbook for my car was blue. Car was built Nov 1952. Last summer was my first experience driving my TD, during one tour we were almost rear ended turning on a rural road. Ideas for adding directional-stop lights? I haven't seen anything that looks appropriate. Second, it seemed that most activities we went to were east of where we live and we were always driving into the sun on the way home. Are the gray smoked, plexi glass type visors Moss shows effective or is there something better? The car, 52 TD MKII is correct in relation to the information in the book MG T series in detail. These make the lights actually bright enough to be seen during the day. For see an example of the difference go to: http://www.mg-tabc.org/techn-up/brakelights.htm The link shown to get the lights isn't any good anymore however Terry Sanders (taterry@pacbell.net) can supply the kit for either negative or positive grounded cars. I would highly recommend installing 2 D-lamps if you don't have 2 already. Second...you'll notice I have a couple of lights mounted on the sides of my gas tank. This is not original but it brings the lights up where people can see them easier - and they can be easily wired for directional signals. I bought these lights from a motorcycle website - they were less than $12 each and were heavily chromed. I've had them on the car for over 5 years and they look as good as new. They're a Mid-USA part number 11410...I can find the web-site if you're interested. A good tail light trick is to replace the license plate lamp with a motorcycle tail light. I think the brand I found was Chrome Craft, or something like that. Same size and shape as the original lamp but incorporates a tail/brake lamp. You have to run an additional wire from the harness or the standard fender tail lamp. Here was my first approach: http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/HighMountLights.html. That particular set of lights is no longer available, but similar sets are readily available through such as Harbor Freight, etc. I then went the LED route: http://www.ttalk.info/led_high_mounts.htm. Again, they're no longer available from JCW, but it should give you an idea of how to install such lights. Email me if I can help. Hi Bob, I have not fitted directionals to my TD yet, though it is something long overdue. Shaken by close approaches at stopsigns, I did install a third brake light. It was quick & easy. A WalMart type of side marker light used on boat trailers is fitted in the spare wheel, between hub cap and the rim of the wheel. The light is fastened to a 1" wide, 1/8" thick, strip of aluminium from the scrap pile, drilled to fit over the upper of the three spare-wheel nuts. It fits between hubcap and wheel. Double wire lead from this disappears behind the wheel and tire, under the rear valence, around to a brake lamp and to ground. I used Lucar connectors at the wheel, thinking that I would disconnect and remove third light when at car shows, though have never actually done that. Bud Krueger's system looks a lot better to me than mine. The two lights are a bit higher, and the turn signals are increasingly important. Few seem to know what most hand signals are, the only one generally known is considered rude. I have those grey plexi visors, given to me by a friend who removed them from his Austin Healey. They are about the ugliest thing ever seen on a TD. For me, their benefit is to lift wind over my hat a bit better. I have not found them to be useful as glare shades, but that may be because my seat cushion is firm and I sit with eyes just below top of windscreen, where the visors don't close the light gap. They are useful enough as deflectors that I leave them on the car, though I keep thinking that making another sort of them to fit these good hinges would be worth trying.
