Anybody have any extra 215/3.5 rods they are willing to part with? My machinist is really excellent, but I was giving him a few piece-parts at a time to work with, and he accidentally bushed the small ends of my rods to free-float, even though the pistons I'm using free float also, requiring the gudgeon pin to be press-fit into the rods. So, I need to start over with some new rods, or find a new piston that can lock the pin in place. Right now I'm using a 3.9L with Ford 255 pistons on a 300 crank. Anyone know of any other pistons that will swap into this recipe? Nobody (that I know of) makes anything other than stock, cast 255 pistons, which don't use retaining clips to hold in the pin. I don't want to go the route of custom pistons, because of the price (compared to standard-dimension pistons, or buying a set of rods off of you guys) Thanks! Two years ago, I was really confident with building up a stroker using a 300 crank and a 3.9L block I got from D&D. Since then, I keep hearing all these horror stories about cracked blocks/water leaks/dropped cylinder liners in the 3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 blocks. Some sources cite a failure rate as high as 25%. RPI (in the UK) sells top-hat liners, but that is expensive, and (despite other reports that indicate they DO work) they don't recommend them and claim they don't work. Are we seeing cracked blocks/dropped liners over here in the states on the 3.9L and larger blocks? If push comes to shove and my block does start to leak, does anyone know if the re-lining actually works or not? I hate to admit how much I've forgotten in the last 2 or 3 years...... I'll talk to each of you individually in the next couple of days. If any of you think you may need them in the future, but were being generous since I'm in a bit of a pickle, I don't mind if you change your mind, (since a number of folks responded). This has always been a kind and generous group.
