You mentioned the Eliminator which Brock still owns-indeed I was in it on
Monday driving it out of his garage to access one of his midgets which I
brought up to Rochester.
Brock and I have built a new Eliminator Special-TCI frame stretched 6 inches,
Wescott 34 Ford body, 13 1/2" Baer brakes, 18" Halibrands, adjustable
coil-overs, 9"Currie, with a Viper V-10 and 6 speed. She is great fun and
does 0-60 in 3.5, 0-100 in 8.5, 0-100-0 in 13.2 and .91 on the skidpad. The
nose is made from a mold of the original Eliminator nose.

Listers,
I picked up a 1970 Titan Mk6 Formula Ford project car the week before
Christmas,
and offer it for sale as-is before restoration. It is one of those "barn
finds", and hasn't been on the track since 1979. I built a web page with
photos and a description of the car at:
http://www.vintagegarage.com/TitanForSale/TitanForSale.html
I also still haven't sold my 1968 Royale RP2. I started it off at
$15,900, and
kept reducing the price. Last fall, at the SVRA VIR race, I reduced the
price $1,000 per day, and finally I drove it around the paddock at VIR with
a For Sale sign on it at $9,900 at the end of the weekend. I had no takers.
This
is perhaps the oldest Royale in existence. It only fits a small driver, say
5'7", 160 pounds tops. Today, I've reduced the price further. Its at:

this years event will be on the new Shenandoah Circuit. The SVRA 2003

I am going to be taking a look at the late Lynn Anderson's Kellison, and am

I've seen pictures of the car but have never seen it run, and know I'm

Well my Datsun Roadster motor is sicker than I thought, 20-35% leakdown #'s,
most of it out the exhaust (bad rings). I overheated it last wknd out by
blowing a H2O seal and finishing the last couple laps with very little water
(VERY high water temps but cool oil and good oil pressure). With the 30%
paycut at work, the new motor project is on indefinte hold, probably just
pull the head, drop the pan, pop the pistons out, hone and re-ring (bearings
as neccesary). What kind of leakdown numbers are you guys getting on similar
motors (4 cylinder, pushrod, hi-compression pistons) fresh, and tired?

I would think that leakage out the exhaust would indicate warped exhaust
valves.??
On a watercooled Supervee (14.3 to 1) I get about 4% leakage with the motor
cold. I have never tried it like you should, with the motor warmed to
operating temperature. My opinion is that 7% to 9% is fine. I'm sure you

out the exhaust? i'd vote for a valve job if the components are
salvageable. overheating does (if severe enough) cause rings to loose
their spring tension (the heat makes them relax a bit). why not just
freshen it up with bearings and rings and treat it to a fresh valve job?
bet that takes you through this season.

Thanks for correcting me, I know better but just wasn't thinking. Noise out
the exhaust during a leakdown test means leakage around the exhaust valve.

Subject: Second Round on the Dyno for the new motor...
Hi Folks,
Spent the day out a Maryland Performance
Center watching George fit a little tuning time
into running the business. This round of dyno
numbers for Ol'Beastly's new motor is looking up.
Keep in mind these are rear wheel numbers for a 306
on pump gas; I'll just touch on the highlights:
RPM Ft/Lb HP
3394 305 197
4030 317 243
4955 318 300
5194 322 318 Torque "Peak"
6810 274 355 Hp Peak
George thinks I may need to switch to a smaller
carb (running 780 CFM Holley with the choke horn
removed at the moment) as its lean and sluggish
below 3000 RPM, so we'll be trying a 650 HP series
carb on it next week some time. Today we went
down one jet size on each corner, reduced the
mechanical advance in the distributor and set the
timing with more initial advance, but still only
33 degrees total advance. Given the progress
a couple of simple tuning changes have made (we
picked up 49 HP), I can hardly wait to see where
the numbers end up. Now, if I could just get
George's undevided attention... Oh wait, I cant
afford that.

First of all if the leakage is out the exhaust rings are likely not the
prime culprit, it is exhaust valves.
Leakage out the intake is intake valves, exhaust will be exhaust valves
and out the breather will be rings.
Your readings are high and a rebuild is in order.
My S 2000 engines will read under 5% when fresh, at 15% its time for a
freshen up.
Incidentally it is not uncommon for a factory new engine to read over
10%, but for a racing engine you need to be well below that figure to
develop max power.

Hi Gene:
We tow an enclosed 24' trailer at approx. 6,500 pounds. Here in the
flatlands, the wind resistance from the trailer seems to make a much
greater difference than the weight of the trailer.
Our first tow vehicle was a 1989 E350 window van with port injected 460 and
C6 3 speed Automatic. This lasted about 100K miles before the air
conditioning went out in 1997. The motor and C6 never gave me any
trouble. Mileage was speed and wind dependant and went from a low of 6.5
to a high of about 8.0. A friend with a later 460 with the 4 speed
overdrive got about 1 MPG better mileage. According to Consumer Report,
the 89 was a bad year!
We traded for a 1997 E350 window van with 415ci V10 and 4 speed
overdrive. With about 75% of the 93K on the odometer towing the trailer, I
have had Zero problems. The four speed overdrive that I place in OD and
never touch has been flawless. Mileage is 7.0 to 9.0 depending on speed
and wind.
I don't know which transmission you have, but the C6 is really tough. At
this point it also seems that the C6 derived OD unit is also pretty good.
Verify that you have a transmission oil cooler. If not, I would add one
immediately. I also believe that the added cost of synthetic oil is money
well spent on a tow vehicle. Mobil 1 and Red Line also makes synthetic
transmission fluid.

All three of the 460s I know of and our current V10 were/are all in the 6.5
to 9.0 mpg range. This was with a full height Haulmark enclosed car hauler
bringin up the rear behind an E350 van. I assume that a van is no heavier
or less aerodynamic than a Class C.
The V10 Club Wagon does get 14 mpg without a trailer when driven in the 75
to 85 mph range.
10 to 12 mpg with an enclosed trailer is amazing from my perspective. I
could see it with an open trailer maybe. Oh well. :-(

Subject: Smokey's autobiography
Just finished the painful process of listening to six hours of Smokey's "Sex,
Lies, and SuperSpeedways".
If John DeLorean was really Smokey's friend, as he claims, he should have paid
a professional to read the thing on to the CD. The constant monotone will put
you to sleep if you listen for more than ten minutes at a time. There are a
few good stories in there but if you take out the foul language and the women
in Smokey's life there is almost nothing left. I had really hoped for some
real insight into clever cheating that goes on in Nascar. There are a few
stories but it seems that those guys will cover up for each other until they
are all in their graves. I am sure that Smokey had some good info on the
things Gary Nelson did but they are still a secret!
Any one else out there read this thing? (by the way the coffee that came with
it is really bad and the cup has his web site on it. not very nostalgic)

Hello All,
I have no financial interest in or knowledge of this
car other than what you read below. Just thought I'd

these lists before listing it at SimpleSevens. Contact
the seller at the email or phone number listed - I
believe he's in the San Fransisco Bay area of

Mike,
aren't you jumping to a conclusion here? If the car
was 'famous' or even well known in its day, it seems
to me that Mr Gallagher would have mentioned it in his
ad. I've emailed back asking him to share some of the
car's history. Until then, I wouldn't get too
excited... he may well have had more than one car of
similar spec along the way.
Either way, I would tend to agree that $6,500 seems
reasonable for a complete, if disassembled Seven. Of
course my taste runs toward something a little more
original but I'm sure someone will snap it up before
too long.
Cheers,
John D.

Yes, this is the car that Jim brought back with him from England back
in the late 60s. Jim is actually one of my brewing buddies here in
Salt Lake City. Trust me, if I had $6500 to spend on cars this Lotus
would be in my shop right now and not available for sale. It has been
tweaked in various configurations for quite some time. I drove it
at an autocross once or twice when it had a rotary in it, what a hoot!
The car has been an autocross only car for quite some time, and a few
years back Jim almost got a D Mod national title in it, but his fellow
competitors, who seemed like such nice fellows during the season, hit
him with a protest after the first day in Kansas about his car being
too modified for the modified class. He moved a frame rail to fit the
Cosworth motor in a better spot. That protest soured Jim on SCCA Solo for
quite some time, though he did have the car out a few times last year.
He's already sold the Cosworth motor, I think.
Given the bare minimum brakes and light weight components and such, the
car would not last long during a road race session with IVR out at Wendover.
Jim would like to get something he can run out there with us, that may be
one factor in his decision to sell.
Hmmm, I may see Jim at brewing tonight, perhaps I'll try to talk him
into an easy payment plan, or maybe throw a road race Spitfire into the
deal.

I think you would be better of with one of the multi-blade plastic fans.

Can't you fit an electric fan (you only need it for pregrid anyway)?
That lump of metal attached to the end of the crankshaft is a balancing
nightmare and not all that efficient anyway.

Hello List Members. I was wondering in any list members who are familiar with the Moretti marquee would be willing to comment on the following car:
http://www.classicscars.com/kit/morettibarchetta2/mmframe.html
Does anyone have an opinion as to the original specifications of this car? My interest regarding this car are the vintage racing possibilities. I was wondering about the following items:
1. Does the body appear to be original? Or has it been re bodied?
2. The car currently has a fiat 1100cc motor, would this be acceptable for vintage racing in the US (CSRG, HMSA)
3. Any guess as to what this car might be worth?
Any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated. Replies off-list are encouraged. Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Erich

database. As you will recall, to be eligible for the Florida Regions' SCCA
Vintage in the vehicle must be pre '73 and prepared as it would have been to
be raced in the year of manufacture. Other organizations like SVRA and VDCA
who sponsor events in the southeast will want the same preparation level.
HSR, on the other hand, will let you do almost anything to the car and will
have a class for it. I think it's safe to say that if you prepare the car to
SCCA's satisfaction it will be accepted by nearly all other organizations
(assuming the accept cars as "new" as the one you find).
Since you are looking for a 69-72 model, I've also posted this notice to the
vintage-race list and anyone with information relating to Corvette
preparation, those available for sale and meeting the above SCCA requirements
in particular, may reply to Al directly.
Good luck - let me know if I can help more.

I'm sure it's going to be a fine track in the Bill Scott tradition but
compare the new track layout with the twisty bit of the original track
shown on my web page -
- "http://www.shen.homestead.com/mediummap.html"
That bit of the old track is the slowest twistiest bit of any track I
currently run on - and most of the new track seems to be twistier - and
have abrupt dips/brows/adverse cambers etc. It may suit some drivers
more than others.

That jumped out at me as well. That would make it a VERY tight circuit
that may not suit some of the big/fast cars at all.
I am reserving judgment until the track is a reality and someone has had
the chance to turn laps.

Any computer experts out there.
Tried to download couple of new software files tonight - in both cases

What is an .asp file? How can I download software just as an .exe file?
Change some setting or something?

Heims give accurate suspension motion, but wear out more frequently, even
with the little rubber gaiters.
OK for race only use, but not for race/street.

Subject: Open Trailers at cost (not mine)
Hi all,
Anyone near Mid Michigan -- if you might need a
trailer, the local dealer (Just north of Mason near
corner of 127 and Cedar street) is getting out of the
biz and selling his remaining stock at cost.
Example - brand new BNM trailer (like this one
http://www.bnmtrailersalesinc.com/utility-trailers/car-hauler-trailers.html)
1,500lb, dual 4" drop axle, electric brakes, hideaway
ramps, 7,000 lb gvw normally $2,100 is available for
$1,600. I think it's 12 ft and he's got a longer one
as well. I didn't get his phone# but can run back down
there tomorrow if anyone's interested.
It's extremely tempting to me, but I still need a
lighter trailer for the Seven. If you're upgrading,
let me know about your old trailer!
Cheers,
John D.

NorPac Vintage Racing Series Announced
It was announced at the Northern Pacific Division SCCA Convention in Reno,
Nevada that a Vintage Series has been established. The schedule will be:
May 23-26 at the Northwest Region SCCA Memorial Day Double National Races
at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington.
June 13-15 at the Oregon Region SCCA Rose Cup Regional-National Races
event at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon.
August 16-17 at the Oregon Region SCCA Regional Races event at Portland
International Raceway in Portland, Oregon.
August 29-31 at the Team Continental Labor Day Weekend Races event at
Thunderhill Park in Willows, California.
October 24-26 at the San Francisco Region SCCA Vintage Races event at
Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.
The NorPac Vintage Racing Series will provide an opportunity to race as part
of a series that emphasizes participation over finishing position at the
premier racing sites of the Northern Pacific Division - from Monterey to
Seattle. The tracks involved are both historically significant and are also
newly developed and updated. Keeping more cars and drivers active in sports
car road racing over a longer period of time is recognized as vitally
important to our sport.
The NorPac Vintage Racing Series will utilize a common set of rules that
support these philosophies. The four clubs involved wanted to get these
dates announced early in the season so individual planning for event
attendance could take place. Work is under way to finalize details for the
series and that information will be available shortly.

Subject: Vintage Racing group at SCCA Regional Race?
Good Morning:
Missouri Valley Race Group is a partnership between two SCCA regions, Des
Moines Valley Region and Nebraska Region. MVRG has two Regional/National
events scheduled this year and also has a Double Regional weekend on
October 4/5. These events are being held at the new Mid America Motorplex
near Omaha.
I would like to suggest to MVRG that we add a race group to the October
event for vintage. At the fall vintage race at Road America it appears
that every type of vehicle is allowed on the track at the same time so I'm
thinking that one group will work. In order to understand if this is
viable, I need more information.
Is a one group race acceptable?
How is licensing and membership handled? Must be SCCA member? Must have
SCCA license?
Is additional insurance required?
Based on the variety of vehicles, is it appropriate to black flag for over
aggressive driving?
Must the cars meet current SCCA safety standards?
Is there usually a Vintage Group involved such as VSCDA involved?
Or is all of this just a dumb idea?
I would really appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,

Okay, here are some possibilities:
1. They were conducting a fuel mileage comparison where you put a few
gallons in the car and see which car goes farther on a specific type of
fuel, or tires, or spark plug ...
2. They are practicing the new "Le Mans" style start which the FIA will
soon make public.
3. They were in the hospitality bus when the red lights went out for the
start of the race.
None of these explains the two gents who appear to be running toward the
cars on the left side of the frame.
So who are the two gents on the left side of the frame?

Subject: WANTED - TWM Long Manifold for 45 DCOE on MGB
HELP!
I'm trying to find a TWM Induction (Goleta, CA) manifold to mount a Weber 45
DCOE on my MGB. TWM is out of their long (13cm) one. And, that is the one
I'm looking for.
Any help you can give leading to a new or used one will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance to all.

Subject: Transport
Hi,
I need to transport a personal car from San Diego to Portland. An open
trailer is fine. I have used intercity but they are enclosed
(expensive) and not necessary for this car. Does anyone have any
recommendations for a carrier? Not looking for the cheapest, just fair
and reliable.
Thanks,
Craig Wright
