Jim---Only the earlier had what could be called a vernier adjustment to fine tune the distributor. Your model doesn't have this feature. The "fine" adjustment here is the single bolt that holds the distributor clamping ring to the side of the block. It's elongated and can give a few degrees of timing.
If you need more adjustment to time the distributor than this slot can provide, then it will be necessary to loosen the horizontal bolt that goes thru this clamping ring. This will give you the full range.

Our distributors turn counterclockwise, when the engine is running. So to advance timing, it is necessary to turn the dist. body in the clockwise direction. And VV.

Is the TR6 (74) distributor just released and then manually cranked
advance or retard? I see reference to a fine adjustment. How exactly
does this work? Also, which way is advance and which way is retard?
Thanks, Jim
