I?m submitting this post as a Standard Triumph ex employee, enthusiast, supporter and someone who spent the final 35 working years of his career in the global parts business at manufacturer and supplier level. All I want to say is I?m more than willing to help TRF in any way that I can from a U.K. base (though I?m sure they still have all their contacts) and any Triumph owner in the States or Canada find the elusive part. Those who know me will know there is no commercial angle or financial interest on my part to try and make ?a buck or two on the side.? I?ve owned two Triumph Big Sixes and a Ferguson tractor in the past and I know too well what it?s like to be ?part-less? and not know where to find the item you want. I?m not setting myself to be an alternative supplier but simply a searching source and hopefully able to point people in the right direction for what they want. I can?t guarantee success, but I?m willing to try. Rebuilding any business after a disaster is unrelenting hard graft and I?m confident those still at TRF are wondering where the h*ll to start. I?m sure their U.K. suppliers will do what they can to ease the burden; at least, I hope they will. Similarly, if I can help in any abstract way, I?m happy to do so. This year I was able to run my TR6 until past Christmas before the roads were salted. I'm thinking of adding sound insulation panels of my transmission tunnel over the winter, but I wanted to check to see if anyone else has done it and what their results were. I have sound deadening material left over from another project I did on my wife's BMW Z4, but that was doing the doors to eliminate the tinny sound when the doors were shut. BMW said it eliminated the sound deadening material in the doors to reduce excessive weight. This is in a car with A/C and power seats... In doing either the transmission tunnel or the whole interior did the sound insulation reduce road noise? I'm a bit hesitant about doing the whole interior as my car is original and I'm leery of adding material that may be almost impossible to remove during a restoration. In any case, I'd like to hear other peoples experience in doing this possible project. I laid it on the floors and trans tunnel and put the carpeting down on top of it. I am very pleased with the results. It can be removed very easily if desired. It also served as a good backing for the new carpet. Very happy with the results. Several years ago I installed self adhesive foil to the underside of the transmission cover. It held okay but heat and the elements caused some of it to detach. Hope the replies you received helps your decision.
