An event for ALL British Car Enthusiasts

A well-known British Classic car enthusiast, automotive historian and author,
John Macartney from Evesham in the United Kingdom, will be undertaking a
marathon 10,000-mile Charity Drive across the United States and Canada later
this year. This epic journey will be undertaken in a fully-restored 1973
Triumph Stag which is currently undergoing rebuild in Chicago, Illinois.

The Charity Drive objective is to raise funds for three non-profits b
Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada (ADAC/ACTA) based in Montreal, Canada,
The Sidran Institute in Baltimore, MD and Assist Trauma Care in Rugby,
England. All three organisations specialise in providing educational and
practical treatment services for those suffering from post-traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD). This insidious mental illness can affect members of the armed
services, those in the civilian emergency services, hospital staff and any
civilian who has experienced a mind-shattering, life-threatening event.
Tragically, too many PTSD sufferers are unable to find the specialist help
they need to recover from the illness, with the result that turning to crime
or suicide are by no means uncommon. Current estimates indicate approximately
4% of the population suffers from some form of PTSD.

John, whose early career started with the UK auto industry in England, saw him
later spending many years both living and working overseas. He also became a
PTSD sufferer in 1980 when in Iraq at the outbreak of the Iran/Iraq war. In
his own words, b
it was Assist Trauma Care who gave me back my life after
twenty seven very long years of PTSD suffering, because neither my doctors nor
I could identify any specialist help within the UKbs government-run
healthcare program.b

The Triumph Trans-AmeriCa Charity Drive will start from Daytona, Floridaon
27th June 2009 and is planned to finish in San Luis Obispo, Californiaon 29th
September. Any classic-car enthusiast who would like to take part for even a
nominal distance, is most welcome to do so. John Macartney will be visiting
the Minnesota Triumphs from 11:00 to 4:00 on August 29 at The Square Peg
Diner, 2021 East Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis 55413, where he will be delighted
to meet enthusiasts, members of the local Press, together with others from
local radio and TV stations. According to a number of US motoring magazines
and experts, a trip of this length - with its sole fundraising objective for
501(c)(3) non-profits - has never previously been undertaken. As John clearly
intends to complete it, this will certainly be a bFIRSTb in American
motoring history b and achieved by an Englishman!

While in this locality and a guest of this Club, John and the Triumph Stag
will be delighted to meet anyone from the media, to talk at greater length
about this Fundraising Drive, what made him decide to do it and how PTSD
affected him for so long. For further details, please feel free to contact
