       Hi Friends-

I described this tour to Goldendale I did with the Saab Owners Club last
weekend to Jim S. And the Mt Baker tour gang today. This dual event - carshow
and catered dinner Saturday, competition hill climb Sunday - occurs at Mary
Hill in Klickitat County every end of Sept wk end. I think it would be ideal
for Cascade to try next year. A nice 3 hour cruise from Seattle on empty roads
to Eastern Washington when the weather is perfect over there. Suggest you
throw it out to the membership and see what folks think.

Here are some views from the past weekend in Goldendale, Washington.
The local club sponsors a wonderful general interest car show on the lawn at
the Maryhill Museum and a catered dinner Saturday, and then Seattle's SOVREN
vintage racing club stages a fast competition hill climb nearby on Sunday.
Event goes back to the 1960s, but has only recently been revived. Some 50
racers, Jags to Corvettes to Minis to MGs to Porsches, etc, each car runs
against the clock, from river edge to top of the cliff on a narrow switchback
looping road. The car show was totally laid back and relaxed, as fall should
be, and a wide cross section of machinery can be enjoyed. The site is gorgeous
- 1000 feet over the spectacular Columbia River, with Mount Hood in the
distance.

Never heard of Goldendale? This is a quiet and scenic farming community
in Klickitat County 60 miles south of Yakima via US 97 at The Columbia River.
It is an easy 3-4 hour cruise from Seattle area, and the weather in late
September is perfect over there - 80 degree clear days, chilly nights. One
can make an easy loop trip out of this event, since you can return to Seattle
via I-84 or Wa 14 along the Columbia via Vancouver or Portland. A perfect
weekend tour for our Chevies.

I highly recommend this fall Eastern Washington tour for our NWCCC in
future, since I did not see a single Tri-Fives machine there, and the
camaraderie and food and scenery, not to mention the vast empty roads, make it
an ideal autumn run for any car club.
