She's a 1960 3000 BN7 just itching to to do some sightseeing. So I hoped on the internet to get the weather forecast for Saturday, April 12. The good old weatherman is predicting a high of 68, partly cloudy with just a slight chance of rain. Not bad for this time of the year in Seattle - right? So with that in mind, who's up for a drive? First up, the Plains on the East side of the Cascades. We'll meet at the usual meeting place at the Starbucks across from South Center Mall at 8:30 AM. We'll head north on I-405 and stop for breakfast at The Brown Bag (about 9:15) - you can meet us here if you like. The Brown Bag is located at the southeast intersection of I-405 and NE 116th Street (exit 20A). If you leave here hungry, there's something wrong. After breakfast we'll continue north on I-405 then take 522 east toward Monroe, WA. We'll hop on 2 east for a few miles to 203 south. We'll drive 203 south through the Plains that skirt the East side of the Cascades. We'll head east on 202 with a brief stop at Snoqualmie Falls. Anyone want to go over the falls in a barrel? We'll head up the road about a mile into downtown Snoqualmie and board the vintage Train for a short ride (about 45 minutes) to North Bend. Info at http://www.trainmuseum.org/Trains.asp#SpringFall. We'll head back on the back roads running west, parallel to I-90 where you can break off and head for home. So what do you say, who's interested in breaking out the Automobiles? "Those Aren't Pillows..." Drop me a note and let me know you want to go. I'll send out an email on Friday with the number of participants. Hope to see you on the road. You see, I was tooling around town last night when I stopped for gas and ran into a guy in a TR6. I was admiring his powder blue baby as he did my Mistress. He was telling me how surprised he was to see a Healey on the road and commented on how Healey owners only bring their cars out on Easter Sunday to dust off and put back into the garage. I baulked and told him to wait until Saturday when he would see a group of Healeys touring the East side that would rival a Harley gang of bikers. I have to admit my feathers were a little ruffled at the implication we all have trailer queens sitting in our workshops. I suggested he join us. We shook hands, gave a thumbs up as we parted ways leaving the pumps behind. What's the dilemma you ask? I've only received one other member expressing interest in a tour this weekend - hardly a group that would rival a gang of bikers. I've spent the week planning and organizing so that everything is in order including: - Talking with Mother Nature. She's promised the best weather so far this year for Saturday. She suggested we might just hit 70 with no chance of rain. - I've spoken to the State Police and they assure me everyone driving on Saturday will stay on the right side of the road - including the self-appointed, spreed regulating, tree-hugging Subaru and Volvo owners. - The Brown Bag has been notified to have plenty of eggs, hash browns and a requests for the biggest cinnamon roll french toast any of you have ever seen. - I've called the Snoqualmie train station and informed them that we were bringing our Healeys to compliment their antique engines. They even offered to remove the windows from their passenger cars so that we could enjoy the sunshine that much more. - The Snoqualmie Falls operators even offered to increase the flow of water over the Falls just for you guys. - I've got the mice running the treadmills extra hard right now to align the planets in our solar system on Saturday. If it helps, you can even wear your Easter Sunday Best on Saturday and I'll greet you with a rousing, "*Happy Easter*" at Starbucks. So what do you say, can you help us look good in front of the other British car owners on Saturday? Our starting point will be the Starbucks across from South Center Mall - the usual meeting place. We will be departing at 8:30 AM and stop for breakfast at The Brown Bag (about 9:15) - you can meet us here if you like. The Brown Bag is located at the southeast intersection of I-405 and NE 116th Street (exit 20A). My original email laid out the basic route. If you would rather meet us somewhere else along the way that's fine too. The important thing is you get out, enjoy the day, see your friends. My cell phone number is 630.605-6062 in case your running late or wish to meet up somewhere else along the way. No guarantee I'll hear the phone ringing when I'm on the road so you might want to call early to make other arrangements. I can assure you this Good Old Chicago Boy won't get you lost. We're out to show those Healey-wanna-be's in the MG club how the Big Dawgs roll - nothing like a little friendly competition, right?. Can I get a show of hands (via email) from those planning to participate in the Tulip Rally this coming Saturday? Early weather forecasts are predicting 60 and sunny for Saturday. Drop me a note and let me know if you're planning to go and whether or not you would like to caravan there so I can plan a meeting place. Info about the rally can be found at http://www.mgccnwc.com/tulip.htm. I have one navigator seat available for anyone interested in getting out to smell the flowers and Engish motor oil but doesn't have a ride. You just need to be able to read a map, follow rally directions, laugh at my jokes and hold on! *Can you tell I like to win these types of events*? This could be good for anyone with a busted Healey or fellow member who has a son or daughter who wants to go - but there's no room in your Healey. First come...First taken. Since South Center Mall is out of my way for a north-bound trip I've asked Nick Horn to meet anyone interested in going from the Starbucks location across from South Center Mall. *Please be at the Starbucks location in time for a 6:30 AM departure*. The group will head north on I-405 to the Brickyard Park & Ride located in Kirkland just north of NE 132nd Street off of I-405. Hopefully this offers everyone a convenient location to meet. If you prefer to join us along the way as we head north, drop me a note with your phone number so we can set a location and approximate time. I've spoken with Ken Bottini from the MG Club. He tells me they are anticipating 250 entrants for the rally. That's right 250! He suggested we arrive early to sign-in and/or register. I've included a link to the registration form on the MG web site: http://www.mgccnwc.com/tulip.htm . I highly recommend you bring a filled-out registration form along with your $15 fee if you haven't already registered. If all goes well we should arrive at the rally check-in location around 8:30 - 8:45 AM giving everyone an opportunity to top up their fuel tanks before the 9:30 rally start. This is a great opportunity to show everyone your affinity for any British marque. Plus let's not forget there are up to 4 COY points eligible for getting your car out during that week. So what better way to do that than with a Tour. I've put together an over night tour beginning Saturday May 31 and returning June 1. Please see the attached flyer for more details. Our host hotel will be the Best Western Columbia River Inn in Cascade Locks, OR. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-595-7108. I have a block of 10 rooms available - all with river views. Rooms with balconies are $109 + tax, rooms without balconies are $99 + tax. *The block of rooms will be released on May 12 so call now to get your rooms*. Be sure to ask for the Austin Healey Club rate when you call. There will be a hospitality suite at the hotel for everyone to enjoy some snacks & beverages. And I'll figure something out for dinner the night of May 31 - more details to come later. This is open to all British cars or anyone else needing to drive their BJ9 - so bring your friends and their MG. *Dinner & Awards* The tour and rally are on May 31 - June 1. Rally results and another opportunity to get your car out during the week will be on *Wednesday June 4th*. We'll get together for some pizza and good times at Round Table Pizza in Issaquah. Join us even if you can't make the tour & rally and you might just earn some COY points. More details to follow... *Help* I can use a little help with some of the activities if anyone is interested in helping out. Please drop me a note. One of the pricing options for Holiday Inn Express is "Advance Purchase." The rates are a little cheaper in that catagory, BUT you CANNOT CANCEL or not show up!!!! You are charged for your entire stay no matter what! NOT a good choice for those of us whose car is now up on jacks, and may or may not be ready to go May 16th! Greg as the sponsor and others, do you think we can swing by there on Saturday or Sunday? >From the North Sea coast, Haluk Haluk Taysi Schwalbenweg 13 28844 Weyhe Germany Tel. +49 (0) 4203 1325 Mobile +49 (0) 170 952 4038 _______________________________________________ Cahc mailing list Cahc at autox.team.net http://www.team.net/mailman/listinfo/cahc **************Need a new ride? Well, here's your first opportunity to help make this a memorable event... I need to plan for a scouting trip in preparation for the British Car Week Rally & Tour schedule for May 31 - June 1. What that means is I have a road trip I need to take to make sure the roads are passable and not encumbered by construction, snow, storm damage from last December, etc. On this scouting trip I need to figure out re-fueling points, lunch and dinner spots. I hope to have two rallies going each day. The poker rally which is mentioned in the flyer - *check out the club's website for *details*, *is played during the breaks like lunch, re-fueling stops and at the museum. I am still working out the details of the driving portion of the rally. This will be part of my objective for the scouting trip as well. I could use input from those of you who are considering joining us for this Rally & Tour. *Being relatively new (again) to this club, what kind of rally do you prefer?* There are: - *TSD Rallies* - or Time, Speed, Distance rallies - while it's my favorite, I know it's not every one's bailiwick. This kind of event also needs a lot more planning and volunteers than I think we can muster in a few weeks. Perhaps next year? - *Gimmick Rallies *- Fun scavenger hunt or seek & search formats. It doesn't require a lot of driving skill, but may require a good set of eyes and a witty sense of humor - especially if it's mine. - *Endurance Rallies* - Hot dog! Now we're talking about some real fun. I've done a format in the past that doesn't require a lot of planning or resources to execute - but it will test the skills and compatibility of drivers and navigators. This could be a lot of fun. If you're planning to join us, I would appreciate your input on the kind of rally you prefer to participate in. Please drop me a note with your thoughts. So to sum it all up, I'm looking for a volunteer or two to go along on my scouting trip. We'll check out some good places to eat and other places to stop. We'll probably make a quick stop at the museum to check it out and make sure it's worth our time. If not, I've got Pan B in the works. I'll plan to make the the whole trip all in one day - about 475 - 500 miles. I'm thinking about going on Sunday May 4th or the 10th or 11th - I'm flexible. Send me an email if you're interested or feel free to call me at 425-391-5908 in the evenings. Cheers, Carlos Cruz
