Countrymen - *I am not using that term loosely here*,
Consider this fair warning - you may be called on to bail us (me) Hispanic
looking Club members out of the pokie during the Can-Be-A-Nut tour. I'm not
one to mix politics with fun, but I came across something today that has me
wondering what-if. There is a thought-provoking article in this week's
Seattle Weekly, titled *Rough Seize*. It discusses a new border patrol
initiative centered in Anacortes. Border patrol has evidently set up shop
and are detaining Hispanic looking individuals for possible deportation.
Fortunately I'm as American as the border patrol officers - but the mere
inconvenience and possible detention while they sort it all out has me
wondering... So consider this fair warning, if you don't see me sitting
around the camp fire that evening singing along and raising a beer with you
- you better pass the hat, collect some money for bail and come looking for
me. I'm counting on you.
One of the many ironic things I found in the article was the fact that the
program is centered around ferry traffic between the San Juan Islands and
Anacortes ( or Ana Cortes ) - both quite prominent Hispanic names. Anyway,
I look forward to meeting more of you then - I hope!
!hasta luego!
