This is not fun. 
  I had a new noise in the transmisson area, so took it out.
  Found the clutch pressure plate has a broken spring rattling around in there. 
  Ironic circumstance!
  The broken spring is the "Anti-Rattling Spring".
   
  Now I need a "rebuilt" clutch pressure plate.
  Anyone have suggestions?
  Moss wants $200 for a new one, ouch.
  It is a 10" Borg and Beck part number 45616.
  If you have had yours rebuilt or have bought a rebuilt one recently, I would like to hear from you.

Phil,

Sorry to hear about your tranny problems.  BTDT.
I can't speak to big Healey clutches, but my experience is bite the bullet 
and replace the whole clutch ... pressure plate AND through-out bearing.  It 
is such a PITA, do not replace broken or worn out parts, replace the whole 
clutch with new parts.

BTB, I replaced the Sprite engine block drain valve today, finally!  Then I 
topped up the antifreeze, checked for leaks, bolted the exhaust and intake 
manifolds, heat shield and carbs back in place, topped up the carb dampening 
oil, master cylinder fluid and the tranny oil.  With the ignition OFF, I 
cranked until the oil pressure gauge moved.  Then pulled the choke, turned 
the ignition ON and a cranked a few revolutions and the Sprite fired right 
up.  Yee-yah!!

Kilmartin,AH spares,Moss, China Joes???  Next does anyone have pictures, measurements, where to start? I must be insane,but I will complete this car even if it kills me, (haha) it most likely will. Any and all info. will be greatly appreciated. I have pics. I can send to anyone thats interested.

Mitch,

Where are you located?  I have an original, unrestored BT7 that has never 
had any body work in the areas you mention.  If you want to, you can come 
see it and take measurements.  Buy only Kilmartin parts.  British Car 
Specialists in Stockton, CA is a Kilmartin distributor.  They will send a 
Kilmartin catalog if you call them at 209-948-8767.  Some of the body parts 
Moss sells are Kilmartin, but others are not, and do not fit well.  AH 
Spares sells good quality, but the air freight and customs charges can hurt. 
Also, I have a stripped chassis in a body shop in Port Orchard that is 
getting ready to have the body panels installed.  This car is also very 
original and never hit.  It was in dry storage since 1974.  If you act 
quickly, you could go to the body shop and take all the measurements you 
need.  Let me know your plans.  I could meet you at the body shop.

Good afternoon Cascaders,

Happy Mother's Day, I hope you're enjoying your day.

Tomorrow is the last day to get the discount on the hotel room for the  
British Car Week Rally & Tour.  I hope all of you last minute  
procrastinators out there let your fingers do the walking and pick up  
the phone.

I did a lot of driving yesterday to scout the routes.  Some of my  
first-choice roads aren't quite ready for us yet.  But don't fret, I  
was able to find some great alternates.  These are guaranteed to test  
your caster and camber settings and may have your passengers raise  
their arms over their heads like they do on a roller coaster.  WEEEE!!!

The other thing worth mentioning... if you haven't been in the gorge  
recently, you're in for a treat.  The water falls on the Oregon side  
are spectacular right now with all the snow and rain run-off.  Our  
drive on the way down on Saturday will be a good challenging gimmick  
rally.  It will test your powers of perception and general knowledge  
of truly useless trivia.  There's a nice little pub in town for dinner  
and drinks Saturday evening.

The return trip on Sunday will be a nice leisurely tour of the gorge  
and Washington country side.  There will be plenty of time to take in  
the small towns, antique shops or just the open roads at your own pace.

For those of you who can't make the BCW Rally & Tour, join us  
Wednesday night at Round Table Pizza in Issaquah for dinner.  Bring  
your Healey and meet the bunch for a slice of pie.  Round Table is  
located at 730 NW Gilman Blvd in Issaquah.  Come by around 7:00 and  
order your pizza.  Who knows we might just end up with our own little  
Healey Car Show.

  Most likely taking Bothell/Everett Highway to Marysville, over through the Tulalip reservation up to Stanwood, over to coast and up Chuckanut and then up through Ferndale and Birch Bay  to Blaine.

restores equipment for the museum (forgot the name and address but 
museum will tell you where he is). He has very interesting stuff all 
around his shop, Mack trucks going back to the 20s etc.

they arrive.  In the past we would congregate at the Woodland Park Zoo parking
lot, and drive down en mass so we were all in the same location.  ANY classic
cars can enter, and they need not be concourse (Mine was there and heavens
knows its not concourse).  I'm not sure, but If mine is out of the shop I 'll
be going, I just won't go home via the 99 viaduct!  But as someone often says
"that's another story."

Good Evening Fellow Cascaders,

Well, it took some doing but I think you'll be happy with the  
results.  I received a call from George on Sunday.  You know, George  
from back East.  It's not like he calls a lot.  In fact he only calls  
when he's stumped with the proper use of an English word like  
"recordification" - as in, "where can I find a recordification of Jay  
Leno's Garage".

Anyway, we got to chit chat for a bit.  He was waiting on Cheney to  
come back from another hunting trip.  Man I'm glad I don't hunt.  I  
told George about the British Car Week Rally & Tour and how we had a  
great group of Healeys and even a Spitfire lined up to hit the Gorge  
at the end of the month.  George was wondering if we were wearing red  
coats and if he should have Connie raise one lantern or two - George  
and his goofy Texas humor.

I told him how it would be great to have even more cars.  Not missing  
a beat - he offered to help off set the cost of gas but cutting you  
all a check.  He has to call it a stimulus check and said you can have  
it as long as you spend it to go on the British Car Rally & Tour.   
There's still plenty of time to sign up and there are still rooms  
available.


The Rally will be a nice leisurely drive through the Washington  
countryside.  There will be plenty of opportunities to take in the the  
quaint little towns with their shops and scenic overlooks.  There will  
also be many opportunities to leave your better half on the side of  
the road.  So come on out and join us - travel at your own pace.

Please drop me a note if you have any questions.  I will be at the  
Indy 500 next weekend so I might be slow to respond but I will get  
back to you at soon as I can.

Hi Rich,

Hopefuly you'll get your generator on time. If not, think about taking two
batteries and replace them as necessary. You can charge them overnight with a
110 V charger at the hotel. As strange as it sounds, it works, because our
healeys don't drain batteries as new cars do. Think about.

Diego in about a month!

John Snyder saw my post and called me at 9 AM.  He has 3 generators and knows
Colin Anderson in Port Townsend who replaced the bad armature with one on
John's good ones.  I left Tacoma at 9:30 and we got to Colin's shop at 12:00
noon.  Colin dropped everything he was doing to help us.  By 12:45 we we're
out of there with a fresh & tested generator.   We left my bad armaturere with
Colin who will have it re-built for which I will happily cover the cost to
have it re-built for John.  John, you are a treasure - thanks again for your
help.

Hey fellow Cascaders,

I thought I'd give this a shot before I explore other options.  Is there
anyone out there interested in trading (full or partial) their BT7, BJ8 or
other occasional 4-seater for a BN7 roadster?  Similar condition /
reliability expected - everything else is negotiable.  Mine runs like a top,
quick and very reliable and handles like a dream.  You can turn the key and
go anywhere in mine.  It's hard to enjoy the Healey when my kids visit,
hoping a back seat might help.  Please contact me off list if you wist to
explore this idea.

That's exactly what happened.  John Snyder, a local club member, offered 3
generators and a great technician - Colin Anderson, Port Townsend, WA - We got
there at 12 Noon and left at 12:45 with a "new generator".  This list and the
clubs are our lifelines.  Thanks.  After installing the "new" generator I went
to the local (Tacoma, WA) experts - Eric at RE Auto Electric - who got the
system set up spending 2 hours (because the cinch nut on the voltage
adjustment srew on my new regulator was stripped.  A dose of lock-tite red
fixed this) without charge.  - Now that's service.  Tomorrow I'll deliver a
bottle of Grey Goose vodka for happy hour.

Fellow Rally & Tour Participants,

Well, it looks like we're going to be blessed with some good weather this
weekend.  In the event you haven't made plans to join us for the weekend,
however you would still like to get your car out this weekend, give some
thought to taking the drive with us on Saturday.  Afterwards you can head
home from there.  You will still be able to complete in the gimmick rally
and collect your COY points.

*Meeting Place & Time*
We're meeting at the usual Starbucks at South Center Mall around 7:00 for a
quick driver's & navigator's meeting.  Instructions and directions will be
passed out then.

*Photo Contest*
Bring a camera.  We will be having a photo contest like with did with the
Tulip Rally - hopefully with more participation.  The rules are the same,
each car can submit TWO digital photos to me via email by Monday evening.
The pictures will be on display at the dinner on Wednesday evening June
4th.  Attendees will vote on their favorite picture.

*Awards Dinner & All-Around-Get-Together*
If you can make it this weekend, give some thought to breaking out the car
on Wednesday evening June 4th and join us at the Round Table Pizza in
Issaquah around 7:30.  Come on out, order yourself a pie and a brew and vote
on your favorite picture from this weekends rally & tour.  Rally results and
winners will be announced during dinner.  I hope you join us.

*Tips & Suggestions*
I've received some inquiries as to what participants should bring.  Here are
some helpful suggestions....

   - Sun tan lotion
   - A camera
   - A good sense of humor
   - Your AAA card
   - A baseball cap for those follicly-challenged like me

   - Lingerie for the ladies
   - Those blue pills
   - And a small Eskimo
