Hi everyone,

Chip Kochel helped get us hooked up for a tech session at engine 
builders, Autosport in Seattle (www.autosportseattle.com.) They told me 
the last time the Austin Healey Club was there only three people showed 
up, so I hope we can get a better turn out this time (I don't know when 
that was.) They would prefer a week night, but a Saturday morning would 
be okay, too. Our options are Wednesday, March 16 at 7:00, Friday, 
March 18 at 7:00, or Saturday morning, March 19 at 9:00 am.

Let me know which of these times would be best, if you are interested 
in attending.

McDermott will lead us to the Fauntleroy ferry dock in West Seattle where we
will try to catch a 10:00 am or 10:25 am ferry to Vashon Island.

  Jim will have discount car and driver tickets available (@ $12.50) for us.

Frank and Mary Hosick will meet us on the Island and lead us on a scenic
island tour with lunch at the Quarter Master restaurant mid tour.

You want to be gassed up before we get to the Island as gas is about $.10 more
expensive on the Island.

Vashon Tour Details:

There will probably be long lines at the ferry dock because of the 
holiday week-end, so it's important to be as early as possible.
Regular, round-trip ferry fair for a car and driver is $15.55. The 
$12.55 tickets will only be available for cars leaving from South 
Center. Passenger tickets must be purchased at the toll both for $4.55 
round trip, or $2.25 for seniors over 65.
The tides will be quite moderate, which helps when driving low cars on 
the boat. If the apron at the dock looks like it is too steep and might 
cause a problem, the deck hands can change it.
Gasoline on the island is more like $.60 per gallon higher than in town.
The lunch restaurant does not accept credit cards for less than $100.00 
so bring cash or checks. Prices range from about $7.00 - $15.00.
There will not be a rest stop until lunch, an hour or more into the 
tour, so think about that on the boat.

Terri & I drove the route to the ferry twice today and decided that it would
be better to leave Starbucks at 9:00 rather than 9:15am .  It takes 30 minutes
to get to the ferry and that should get us there 9:30 am.  A little more
cushion to catch the 10:00am ferry.  Terri will lead a second group from
Starbucks at 9:15am for those that don't get this message.

When we get to Vashon Island take the first right off of the dock and up the
hill through the two parking lots.  We will meet up with Frank & Mary on the
road above the second lot.

Dress warm I scrapped ice this morning at 8:00 am!

We have just received an email from Steve Pike cancelling his trip with the
Streamliner to the U.S. this year.  So he will not be at Rendezvous, Conclave,
or Bonneville.  We are disappointed but certainly understand that it is a big
undertaking both in expenses and disruption to his work schedule.  Hopefully
we will see him next year.

Yes, I share info on the BJ8s in the registry - everything except for names
and contact information for the owners.  That is, of course, sensitive
information and I cannot release or publish that indiscriminately, as I'm sure
you recognize.  However, I will share previous/later owner information with
another legitimate owner of the same car (when they request it), since one of
the benefits of the registry is that it makes it possible for a later owner to
get in touch with an earlier owner, and vice versa, when desired, and for
later owners to know the history of their car.  There is no other place where
that information can be documented and preserved for their benefit except for
the registry.

I use the details collected for each car in the registry for comparisons and
statistical studies that help us learn more about how the cars were originally
manufactured, and how they are configured and distributed around the world
today.  I have published several articles in the various club magazines with
such information during the last 12 years.  Having a large amount of data
collected on a large amount of cars also allows me to help specific owners
with questions about their own cars.



I've been keeping the BJ8 registry as an official function of all three major
Austin-Healey clubs in the USA and Canada since 1998.  Before that, the only
USA registry was kept by the Austin-Healey Club of America.  I'm not sure
which club you are suggesting I share the registry info with.  I have no plans
to pass the registrar's duties on to anyone else anytime soon because I enjoy
doing it, and I enjoy making it helpful and useful to BJ8 owners.  But none of
us gets to live forever so there will come a time when I can no longer
continue with it, so the registry will be turned back over to the AHCA when
that time comes.  Why do you ask?



I saw your car at Lake Tahoe in '02, and I have you in the registry as the
owner of HBJ8L/33726.  I wrote to you on 17 March 2009 for additional details
of your car, but to my knowledge I did not receive a response.  There is a
standard set of details that I try to record for each car in the registry
(http://www.britishcarforum.com/bj8quest.html).  The more of this I can
collect, the better the statistics will be.  I also have no history on your
car, but would like to record what you know about it.

John Snyder graciously responded, thanks for the info.
Looks like a moot point though, unless somebody knows where I can locate a
front shroud nose repair panel or a good shroud. On closer inspection (and
stripping) I found the nose area from the bonnet edge down is damaged beyond
repair. Had big globs of JB Weld and bondo covering up huge holes, rips, and
it is severely stretched. Back to square one.
