We are very close to the number of orders needed for the club to buy them with nine days left to the June 15th deadline. Once ordered, the wait is normally 7 weeks to get them, but since SRE pins did the 2002 badges , they already have the artwork and it will only take 4 weeks for delivery. If you were going to purchase one, please do so now so I can order prior to June 15th. The badge would make a wonderful "Father's Day" present to yourself! To put it in perspective. The cost of the badge is 8 gallons of regular gas at todays prices. The gas could be gone in a day. The badge will dress up your Healey permanently! The maroon BJ8 was best in show at the 2011 Rendezvous (among other awards) and their AN5 is parked next to it. Jim doesn't like to toot his own horn, so I'll do it for him--beep, beep. Way to go guys and thanks for allowing me to share this with the other members. If you go to the museum, be sure and check out their cars. To My Old-As-Dirt Friends To qualify as "old as dirt" you need to recognize these. For those who never saw any of the Burma Shave signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930's, '40's and '50's. Before there were interstates, when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads, Burma Shave signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers' fields. They were small red signs with white letters. Five signs, about 100 feet apart, each containing 1 line of a 4 line couplet......and the obligatory 5th sign advertising Burma Shave, a popular shaving cream . Here are more of the actual signs: DON'T STICK YOUR ELBOW OUT SO FAR IT MAY GO HOME IN ANOTHER CAR. We had money for 48 of them on June 19th with two checks in the mail. Consequently, when I placed our order on the 20th, I ordered more than 50 to accomodate those that want one but hadn't ordered yet and also to have a small inventory of them for folks who will join the club in the future. The cost to order 25 of them in the future is very high. We would have to have charged $45.00 for them. This seemed the most prudent course of action. Ben Franklin said that "a penny saved is a penny earned." In honor of old Ben, I would like to save the club some money by hand delivering as many of these as possible. If you have ordered a badge and are going to the Bellevue ABFM (7/28) or the "North meets the South in the East Run to Yakima" on 8/25-26, please let me know and I'll bring your badge with me. I approved the artwork on the badge on 6/24 and they should go into production on 6/25. They are supposed to be shipped to me on 7/23--in time for the Bellevue ABFM. I will carry a couple of badges with me on future tours, meets, meetings etc for those who want to purchase one. I think I have covered all of the bases.
