Motion Induced Blindness b It works exactly like it says, and is one major reason people in cars can look right at you (when you're on a motorcycle or bicycle)---AND NOT SEE b YOU.b From a former Naval Aviator. This is a great illustration of what we were taught about scanning outside the cockpit when I went through training back in the '50s. We were told to scan the horizon for a short distance, stop momentarily, and repeat the process. I can remember being told why this was the most effective technique to locate other aircraft. It was emphasized (repeatedly) to NOT fix your gaze b for more than a couple of seconds on any single object. The instructors, some of whom were WWII veterans with years of experience, instructed us to continually "keep our eyes moving and our head on a swivel" because this was the best way to survive, not only in combat, but from peacetime hazards (like a midair collision) as well. We basically had to take the advice on faith (until we could experience for ourselves) because the technology to demonstrate it didn't exist at that time.b b b Click on the link below for a demonstration ...b b b b http://www.msf-usa.org/motion.html /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// b b b b FREE Animations for your email - by IncrediMail Click Here! -- /////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// FREE Animations for your email - by IncrediMail Click Here! b: --Forwarded Message Attachment-- --Forwarded Message Attachment-- --Forwarded Message Attachment-- http://www.msf-usa.org/motion.html /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// FREE Animations for your email - by IncrediMail Click Here! b: --Forwarded Message Attachment-- /local/mailman/lynxXXXXNINkMA: Permission denied [demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type image/gif which had a name of ape.gif] /local/mailman/lynxXXXXEilNEG: Permission denied /local/mailman/lynxXXXX9XTdLH: Permission denied From neilandlois at comcast.net Wed Mar 14 14:03:53 2012 From: neilandlois at comcast.net (Neil and Lois) Date: Wed, 14 Mar 2012 13:03:53 -0700 Subject: Fw: Rendezvous trip plans Message-ID: <066D5E45E39C46A99EFA61D4BF7FE7B4@lois> 2012 Rendezvous in BC Tour one: Leave Friday June 22nd and stay overnight in Port Townsend to attend a car show on Saturday, June 23rd. Steve is very skilled at having fun while presenting in and easy to understand way. Bob and Lynn Ormsby will host us at Garage Town in Federal Way where we will meet in the club house and may get to see some of the cool machines in the various units. Lynn will have sandwiches ready for us after the electrical clinic and everyone is welcome to supplement them with other dishes. Please bring $3.00 to cover the cost of the sandwiches. There will be coffee and bring anything else you would like to drink. We plan to leave on Monday, June 25th on the Anacortes to Sydney ferry leaving at 8:25am. (Higher tides in the morning than the afternoon sailing at 2:45) Better ramp angle for our cars in the morning. There is a lower price for seniors as well as lower fare for cars under 14'. (We should all make that unless we are pulling a yellow trailer) Car and passenger should be about $50 each way. Problem is they won't open the summer schedule for reservations until the middle of May. We would return on the afternoon ferry on Friday. I will get more specific as soon as I can confirm the time and possible fare increase mid-May.
