 Dale Earnhardt had that sudden stop when he was killed. Many were amazed that such a seemingly "little" accident could end his life. But he did go into the wall pretty directly. 
My own personal theory was that he had a heart attack. He had a person as well as family history of heart disease.

..?The press loves to show a F1 car careening down the track, losing pieces as it goes, but the real danger is the sudden stop, not the slow, messy one.
