I'll bet the service shop which started this thread doesn't have an
analyzer, or they would have used it rather than their funnel test.  Or, they
may have one, but the tech evaluating the car isn't sophisticated to know what
to do with one.

Ask the local smog
check place to use their exhaust gas
analyzer to sniff over the open radiator
cap (the service shop
that started this thread probably has one).

Or you can
buy chemical test kits that you suck air thru a
vial of chemicals and see if
it changes color.
