To rebuild a motor would be $1000-$1500 alone. The Convertible mechanism goes for $250 on eBay, Used! 
I never find deals like that.

I bought a "part" car (three years ago) for $500 that was complete, had a freshly rebuilt motor, and three boxes of NOS and other nice parts. 

Maybe $1000 for yours is too much?
