I have been trying to reply to thank you for the help several of you gave me
about my 5-speed popping out of 2nd gear, but I must not know how to post a
reply. I tried twice to send a reply, but they have not shown up on the
mailing list. This is a new posting, under the same title - hopefully it will
work.

Greg asked where I live. I am in Salina, Kansas a town in the middle of the
state 90 miles north of Wichita and 180 miles west of Kansas City.

I don't know if any of the local transmission shops will want to tackle this
project, but armed with the information I got here I will at least have some
idea what to tell them. Since I am not able to work on my cars, both because
of a major stroke 4 years ago and a lifelong tendency to screw stuff up when I
try to fix anything, I have to rely on others. I probably should not be
driving a 40 year old roadster, but my wife and I love it and it takes us back
to our youth a bit. I bought a different 2000 brand new in 1970 in Okinawa
while I was in the US Air Force. I shipped it to the states a year later when
I got out of the service. When I got married in 1973, that was the only car
we owned for 5 or 6 years. We took several long trips with the car, including
our honeymoon to Cape Cod and Niagra Falls. On that trip we had two bicycles
on a rack on the rear bumper asd we were avid cyclists. That car was totalled
in 1983 by a hit and run driver while parked in front of our house. I always
wanted another, and when I was forced to retire due to my stroke, I started to
search for one in earnest. A couple of years ago this one showed up on Ebay
not far from where we live, and I bought it.

Sorry for the long story (longer for me since I have limited use of my right
hand :-) ), but I felt I needed to explain why I am unable to work on the
car at all.

Thanks for the help and suggestions,

Dick Schneiders
