[Roadsters] Gasket material

Does any one have a recommendation for appropriate gasket material
to 'roll my own' oil-exposed gaskets (block-to-oilfilter in this specific
case, so it's under pressure)? I have an assortment of sheet material
from my FLAPS, but it's all basically different thicknesses of compressed
paper that it seems to me will just wick up the oil and fail.
