[Roadsters] Roadster Dunlop brakes

Thanks for all the input. Here’s the current details of what I’m dealing with:

· New standard OEM pads and shoes all around

· Rotors and drums were turned when new pads/shoes were installed. All rotors and drums are within tolerance.

· New brake hoses and new hard lines on the calipers.

· The Dunlops and rear ¾” cylinders are all new also

· About 2000 miles on all of above components

· When brakes are cool, braking with hands off steering wheel is smooth, straight and true.

· After a bit of hard braking when things get hot, braking produces a hard pull to the left

· The pull to the left gets better when the brakes cool down again.

· Just thoroughly flushed/bled all brakes and adjusted rear brakes, but the pull to the left problem is still the same.

· I have not found any leaks in the system.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks / Dan

I have not had any problems with the Volvo brakes. My original brakes were in such bad shape they couldn’t be rescued. I use dustless ceramic pads on them.

Question wasn't to me, Pat, but you may recall a while ago I was looking for 13/16” rear wheel cylinders, which I found and installed, and I really like the additional rear grip.

So, stock fronts, stock rears with 13/16” wheel cylinders, Porterfield R4S compound all around.

Echoing the comments of Jerry Krakauer and others, the factory brakes are plenty stout.

Did you have to do any front/bias problems that needed dealing with?

What size are your rear cylinders?

The Volvo conversion definitely does as that is what I have on mine car.

I believe the Altima rotor / Volvo caliper conversion fits under 14-inch wheels.

Jim… can you send more information. Your email below (copied from Larry Dziuba’s post) didn’t show up in my inbox for some reason. I have 14” slotted aluminum rims that I want to keep. I’m running a set of recently replaced stock calipers which work as expected (which includes the expected brake fade under heavy braking). I don’t want to cut, chop, weld and replace wheels.

Thanks / Dan

Dan, if you are interested in a Wilwood setup, I have a couple versions depending on your needs. These stop incredibly well and will fit under some 14” rims or almost any 15”. Super clean install- all bolt up.
