The first time I walked in I had a pair of headlight scoops in my hands. The owner took one look and said, "From a Datsun Roadster; what year?" I knew I was in the right place. They did quite a few things for us, none of which we've had a problem with, in fact, I'm about to take the front bumper off of Linda's '61 Comet to take to them. Link to the web page: https://metroplatingaz.com/ The shop is in Mesa, AZ while I live in Flagstaff, AZ. I go to Mesa quite often and in fact, since I've retired, I intend to spend winters in the Valley and summers here in the mountains. What all that means is that if you feel more comfortable doing so, and decide to use Metro Plating, you can send me the caps and I would be glad to take them to the chrome shop for you. Stan, roadsterless for now; it's in Tempe getting a new top installed. ________________________________ From: Datsun-roadsters on behalf of Charles Hubbard via Datsun-roadsters Sent: Friday, August 2, 2019 3:02 PM To: datsun-roadsters at autox.team.net Subject: Re: [Roadsters] Fairlady Friday Seeing Steve?s 64 wheels made me decide to go back to my OEM hubcaps. I?ll be sure to spend time at the Infinity display on my hike down to the Concours area on Sunday. Will be glad to see the two ?local? roadsters. There was a nice older 1500? Roadster there outside Infinity ?tent? in the past along with the Toyota 2000 GT and a bunch of other JAI cars and trucks. I?m driving my 1990 Mercedes 300SL (2nd owner 25k miles) up Tuesday and displaying it at Classic Car Magazine Welcoming Party on Lighthouse Ave Pacific Grove 3-7pm. Won?t be driving my 67 or 68 1600s up. The R129 Mercedes Roadster is one of the featured Marques this year at Legends of the Autubahn but it conflicts with The Quail which is my favorite event of the busy week. If I?m lucky I?ll have tickets to McCalls at the Jetport Wed night, Quail on Friday, and Laguna Seca on Saturday. There will be some roadsters, Z?s, and 510s racing and in the pits for close inspection all weekend. Another fun event is one night ( I forget which) when a bunch of outrageous super cars and trucks drive (screaming engines and top speed of about 5 mph with onlookers only 10 feet away) about 2 blocks on Cannery Row (free). Hope to see you if you will be up there. And you might check with Michael Spreadbury to see what he suggests, maybe a Willwood caliper. A number of good alternatives around now. There's also some good info on FB if you can manage to wade through the junk. Our 1966 1600 is my wife?s daily driver. I?ve been through the car mechanically, and its very reliable, but we have one niggling issue that?s driving us crazy. We keep having to replace the rubber shifter boots as they keep splitting open. I?ve replaced at least five of them in the last three years. Now I buy them three st a time. Are we the only ones struggling with this? They are not getting oil soaked or sitting out in the sun. Suggestions would be welcome. Has anyone placed a single DIN radio into a '66 style roadster center console? I replaced the original radio many years ago with a Sanyo AM/FM cassette radio which operated fine until recently. I had to nibble out the center opening to make it fit but was able to use the original knob holes in the console. I'd like to update to a more modern radio, but they all seem to be the DIN size. There is enough room in the console for the DIN standard height and depth, but the width is not quite enough for the DIN box or bracket. I think the DIN radio itself might just fit without the DIN bracket but with some additional nibbling in the front panel. I'm looking for ideas and suggestions, especially if anyone has done this already and what to look out for, etc. Also, is there any modern radio that you would recommend?
