First unplug the harness from the voltage regulator. Is the alternator voltage still high? If so you probably have a defective alternator or harness or the connections to the alternator are incorrect. If it is not high you have a defective regulator, it is not grounded or have wrong wiring between the alternator & regulator. Something else to be sure is in place is the ground strap between the engine & body/frame. Where is your negative battery cable connected, engine or body/frame? I highly recommend events like this, as in the event of a breakdown there is no shortage of advice. (note the crowd around the Rotary-powered Midget of the route organizer) Also plenty of groups that run at various paces, so sure to find one that suits your tastes. I found out on the road that I had missed picking up all the route sheets, so when I got to one junction I just stopped and waited until a cool car came by, (The butterscotch Volvo P1800) then fell in behind them. Above Santa Barbara, Figueroa Mntn road was way to rocky and rutted for my tastes, (and roadster suspension travel) but the rest of the roads were wonderful. The guy on the 1967 250cc Ducati did the whole first day mileage, and I think did 25% of Day 2 until his hands wore out from all the bumps the first day.
