Yea, Matt better concentrate with the Mazda, as I was holding him off last week in Waterloo, until the 4th run, he finally managed to get me.

having with the MG's starter I never even took the camera out of the bag,
and I don't think any of our other regular photographers were there. I'll

Thumbs up on Harvey's, they built motors for Lou's truck in the past and did
a great job for us. The only reason we have a new engine builder this year is
that the new builder signed on as a dirt truck crew member after a falling out
with his old team.

Randy at Hyperformance has done the Twin Cam Lotus head and the Super Vee
head several times over the last several years. He specializes in drag
race Hogs but I think he will still work on car stuff (not sure about rice
burners though).
I think his shop rate is about $70.00/hr.

Of late things have been a bit slow within this forum.
And I have just completed Omni and Miata prep and have a bit of time to post
misc. info:
1) Anybody doing the road-racing thang in St. Loco 7/26-27? I was thinking
about HPT for 7/20.....but cannot justify that amount of travel for only 1 day
of racing (though all know I could use the schooling).
2) The 6/29/03, 7/6/03 and 8/10/03 Solo2 events at Waterloo are cleared for
Junior Karts for drivers older than 12. Ron and Sonya VerMulm will be acting as
Junior Kart Stewards. I need Event Chairs for the 7/7 and 8/10 events. No
co-chairs = no event.
3) I have been in contact with Joe W Re: The Solotime Midiv event at Topeka
scheduled for August 2-3. Information will soon be found at:

I would heartily encourage you to come to HPT. It's generally cooler than
it is in St. Louis (something about a little grass to absorb some of the
heat - rather than the asphalt bowl).
Spend Saturday working a corner - learn more about where you could go
faster on Sunday! Or, if cornerworking isn't your idea of fun, spend the
day in Timing and Scoring, or on the Grid, or in another of our interesting
race-working specialties.
Several of our drivers have learned alot while spending time on a corner,
right Jarrod? If you don't want to spend the money on track time, you can
learn more about the course by watching several different lines in the same
turn for most of the day. Some of them are good, some of them are
not-so-good, others can be horrible!

Actually, Kelley is right on target. I learned a TON about road racing from
standing on a corner watching the cars go by. Learned even more standing on
the corners (sometimes unintentionally) after having driven them at speed in
the Miata.
I've also learned a ton doing cheap-track-time driver's schools. That
weekend's entry fees: race only, $190. Race plus school: $220. THAT, my
friend, is cheap track time. The Topeka school is (usually) pretty light on
attendance, too, so you can focus on driving and setup (unlike the St. Louis
school, where you're trying not to get run over.)
I'm pretty sure Jen and I will make the trip for Sunday's race at HPT....St.
Louie isn't in the mix 'cause of some dumb wedding (not mine). Company
picnic precludes getting to Heartland early enough for the school on
Saturday.
The blue Miata SHOULD be at the autocross in Waterloo this weekend, too....

Yes...I was kinda trying to decide whether to do the school thing on Saturday
or work.
I'm agonna work. Haven't worked a race since the last century.
So; I'll be at HPT by ~6:00 PM on Friday, will work all day on Saturday
where needed/can do the least damage, then "race" (more like slowly drive around
the track) on Sunday.
Needing just 1 more race to qualify for a national license,

Going Pro? I am Way Too Slow.
Road America: I had hopes to drive that track this year......but have too
pull back on those plans due to the goal of obtaining a National License before
my membership renewal date of August/03. So will run 1 day at Topeka to
complete the 6 race requirement for a Nat. License. I want that
License............just because it is my '03 goal.
I plan to drive RA next year. Just to experience Turn 5 1st hand/up
close/personal.
In the meantime, I look forward to working with you'all at Topeka on 7/19.

having with the MG's starter I never even took the camera out of the bag,
and I don't think any of our other regular photographers were there. I'll

Thumbs up on Harvey's, they built motors for Lou's truck in the past and did
a great job for us. The only reason we have a new engine builder this year is
that the new builder signed on as a dirt truck crew member after a falling out
with his old team.

Randy at Hyperformance has done the Twin Cam Lotus head and the Super Vee
head several times over the last several years. He specializes in drag
race Hogs but I think he will still work on car stuff (not sure about rice
burners though).
I think his shop rate is about $70.00/hr.

Of late things have been a bit slow within this forum.
And I have just completed Omni and Miata prep and have a bit of time to post
misc. info:
1) Anybody doing the road-racing thang in St. Loco 7/26-27? I was thinking
about HPT for 7/20.....but cannot justify that amount of travel for only 1 day
of racing (though all know I could use the schooling).
2) The 6/29/03, 7/6/03 and 8/10/03 Solo2 events at Waterloo are cleared for
Junior Karts for drivers older than 12. Ron and Sonya VerMulm will be acting as
Junior Kart Stewards. I need Event Chairs for the 7/7 and 8/10 events. No
co-chairs = no event.
3) I have been in contact with Joe W Re: The Solotime Midiv event at Topeka
scheduled for August 2-3. Information will soon be found at:

I would heartily encourage you to come to HPT. It's generally cooler than
it is in St. Louis (something about a little grass to absorb some of the
heat - rather than the asphalt bowl).
Spend Saturday working a corner - learn more about where you could go
faster on Sunday! Or, if cornerworking isn't your idea of fun, spend the
day in Timing and Scoring, or on the Grid, or in another of our interesting
race-working specialties.
Several of our drivers have learned alot while spending time on a corner,
right Jarrod? If you don't want to spend the money on track time, you can
learn more about the course by watching several different lines in the same
turn for most of the day. Some of them are good, some of them are
not-so-good, others can be horrible!

Actually, Kelley is right on target. I learned a TON about road racing from
standing on a corner watching the cars go by. Learned even more standing on
the corners (sometimes unintentionally) after having driven them at speed in
the Miata.
I've also learned a ton doing cheap-track-time driver's schools. That
weekend's entry fees: race only, $190. Race plus school: $220. THAT, my
friend, is cheap track time. The Topeka school is (usually) pretty light on
attendance, too, so you can focus on driving and setup (unlike the St. Louis
school, where you're trying not to get run over.)
I'm pretty sure Jen and I will make the trip for Sunday's race at HPT....St.
Louie isn't in the mix 'cause of some dumb wedding (not mine). Company
picnic precludes getting to Heartland early enough for the school on
Saturday.
The blue Miata SHOULD be at the autocross in Waterloo this weekend, too....

Yes...I was kinda trying to decide whether to do the school thing on Saturday
or work.
I'm agonna work. Haven't worked a race since the last century.
So; I'll be at HPT by ~6:00 PM on Friday, will work all day on Saturday
where needed/can do the least damage, then "race" (more like slowly drive around
the track) on Sunday.
Needing just 1 more race to qualify for a national license,

Ain't going national. Just look what that move did for SARS.
Going Pro? I am Way Too Slow.
Road America: I had hopes to drive that track this year......but have too
pull back on those plans due to the goal of obtaining a National License before
my membership renewal date of August/03. So will run 1 day at Topeka to
complete the 6 race requirement for a Nat. License. I want that
License............just because it is my '03 goal.
I plan to drive RA next year. Just to experience Turn 5 1st hand/up
close/personal.
In the meantime, I look forward to working with you'all at Topeka on 7/19.
