eBay is starting to look like some exotic bazar, with cheating  
merchants, bait and switch artists, shills and cutpurses everywhere.  
Nice to see people being consistent about behavior.  Anonymity is to  
blame. The web needs an effective and verifiable identity system,  
probably built right into routing. No ID, no access. Some people  
think anonymity is a wonderful thing worth fighting for on the web,  
but people behave the worst when their identity is protected. Its why  
the jury of your peers has to face you.

Remember crank calls and heavy breathers? Caller ID ended it  
virtually overnight. I remember with considerable satisfaction  
hitting #69 and calling back a gentleman who had just suggested some  
remarkable things to my wife. I told him I was going to look up his  
address on a reverse directory and I'd be over shortly with a few of  
my larger Romanian friends to chat about it.
