[Fot] Gearbox mounts

Henry,

Charles Runyan has a HD mount. I filled it with silicone, kinda like a
gel sole on a running shoe. I only have about 5 days racing on it and it
looks good so far. I gave up on the welded solution when I determined
that it added to the shaking float bowl issue.

Subject: [Fot] Gearbox mounts

Has anybody else been having issues with the current crop of gearbox
mounts? I am getting two events until a rubber in the mount turns to
goop.

I have identified two potential issues. First, my exhaust runs extremely
close to the mount. That can't be helping the situation. Heat plus
rubber equals perished rubber.

Second, my rust prevention program seems to be coating the gearbox mount
with copious amounts of rust prevention fluid. Anybody that has ever
paddocked by me knows all about how strongly I must feel about my rust
prevention program... Last October when we ran with the Ohio Porche club
the 911 guy in the garage next to me followed me around with handfuls of
speedi-dry!

I plan on fabricating a shield to keep the oil off the mount, and doing
the modification described by Nick a while back.

I think both will help the situation, but I am still suspect of the
quality of these mounts we are getting.
