The Shell person also said that 20-50 is not required. 
That's soooo old news...
I've been using non-synthetic 10-40 for years (street Spitfire) and he said
I should be using 10-30
If you want to ask about that, drop him an email!

Rotella is known to be OK, insofar as the ZDDP content is concerned, but
unfortunately it is not available in the 20W/50 viscosity recommended for
most Triumphs.
