Amici...

BRG and other shades of GREEN are in the news what with Earth Day and all.
Our own FOT TR6 racer, Allen Washatko and his Kubala Washatko Architects firm
designed the 'greenest building on the planet.' The Aldo Leopold Legacy Center
in Baraboo, Wisconsin was awarded 61 out of a possible 69 points by the
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program (more than any other
building in the world). Can't get into each and every effort made to achieve
this success on list here, but suffice to say this building generates more
energy than it needs, and is the first 'carbon neutral' building certified by
LEED. Aldo Leopold would be proud. He was the hands on father of the modern
conservation movement, and died fighting a brush fire in 1948. Kudos to Allen and
Kubala Washatko.

PS...What does such a green building cost? Well,...rumor has it the entire
project ran about $325 per building square foot. Might sound high, but there
are long term paybacks over and above the obvious earth friendly leanings. So
one should use a 'life cycle' cost ruler when measuring such an effort.
Anyway...I'll bet you Allen would tell you he's got three times that much in his
TR6 (square foot costs). Good job Allen...in both efforts.
