With me it's just a carryover from writing engineering reports in the R&D
department.  They were a little fussy regarding format.  Guess I can quit now.
Probably goes back to the days when we wrote the reports up by hand and the
secretary typed them up; pre-word processor and computer days.

  Do you really think that someone will misinterpret three?  Like three means
4, for example? "Oh, I'm so glad you put that 3 in parentheses next to three.
I thought you meant 4!"

  Where does this come from? It has that Military feel to it.
