FWIW, I just went looking for a ready source of lye, as Red Devil Lye is no
longer made.  Turns out there is a product called "Roebic Heavy Duty Crystal
Drain Opener" that is pure lye and apparently readily available from Lowe's,
OSH, Ace, Amazon, etc.  Most drain openers also contain other ingredients
(like metallic aluminum) but this one doesn't.

I'm going to pick some up on the way home, as that sounds a lot easier than
trying to break the piston.
