[Fot] distributors (2nd part)

Someone made a steel copy of the camshaft, and the shaft is turned and
polished on both sides of the gear. The bearings are made of brass and are
located by a long bolt, this bolt consists of 3 parts to be able to get it
in place. The bolt is hollow (oil supply) and runs from the front of the
engine (an oil drilling is made in this front of the engine from the main
oil gallery to the bolt) to the bearings.

Marcel,

The cam is likely flexing causing the erratic timing at higher rpms. The
gear is in an unsupported section where a bearing should be and the cams
flex and break at this location. Cutting down the base circle for more lobe
lift makes it worst.

Yesterday I swapped for an identical Mallory distributor, with cap and leads
and no play in the shaft bearing. Also tried a new coil and ran the engine
without alternator : no improvement at all. So I'm looking for another type
of distributor. Any other suggestions to improve the timing?
