[Fot] Steel Connecting Rods for a TR6

Hi Bob - I bought a set of these Chinese rods for the first wet liner engine
that I had built being fully aware of the potential for quality issues. In
30 years of racing (Volvos) I have never broken a stock rod even using an
8000 redline so I was not overly concerned with the strength issue for use
in the TR3 where I would be very respectful of the 5500 redline that I had
set (stock nitrided crank). So far everything has been great.
HOWEVER - as an additional and logical process I took the rods to my
save-my-ass many times machinist and he was appalled. The rods were supposed
to be balanced to the nearest +/- 1 gram and he said that if I had installed
them as received the vibration would have shaken the engine apart at 5000.
All the other dimensions were well within specs. Here are the weights
without rod bolts:

Big end - Initial wt. - 484-491 gms. - final weight - 484 gms.
Total rod - Initial wt. - 659-664 gms. - final weight - 659 gms.

For comparative purposes - Stock rods:
Big end - 554-560 gms.
Total rod - 843-847 gms.

For interest comparison - all 4 Wiseco pistons with pins were exactly 579
gms. - guess where they were made........
Barry.

Hi - if the folks on list list or on the forum do go ahead and buy these
(Chinese) sourced rods, it would be very helpful to share the weight of the
parts.

Regards,
rml
