There are a number of folks entering the arena of vintage racing that will
need a transponder. In the past savings were realized through a group buy.

Interest and comments are welcomed.

While on the subject, does any body know how long they
last? Mine is over 10 yr. old and would hate for it to go
during a week end. Of course it won't go bad at home.
should they be replaced at a time.

Having just purchased a used one off eBay, I did some research into this.
Supposedly, they are good indefinitely.B There IS someone who takes them
apart and repairs them in Australia -- there are some videos on UTube showing
what he does.B Nothing I would ever attempt on my own!

Good luck to all,

Midwestern Council (probably a few hundred drivers) has been using them for twelve years and the hardwired ones have had only a few failures. We bought around 20 battery-powered ones for rental and those have all lost their batteries, hardly a surprise. We had a half-dozen batteries replaced by the Australian guy a year ago and they work great.

I recommend getting the hard-wired one and wire it straight to the ignition or master switch. Some people put a switch in for no reason: the current draw is negligible. Then they forget to turn it on. It's one of the more common Timing & Scoring problems.
