[Fot] Fuel cell

My GT cell hangs down about like that, but it's above clearance of the diff, so from the front any obstacle would hit the diff and axles before the cell. I don't have additional protection for it, but see some box it with 1" square stock

 Subject: [Fot] Fuel cell

I currently have a steel plate that runs under my trunk pan and 'protects' my fuel safe fuel cell. I am looking to cut some weight by removing. If I do, my fuel cell will hang below the trunk pan maybe 3".

I see other racers with their cells hanging below the trunk pan. Any safety issue with doing this? Any reason not to cut that plate out--runs entire width of trunk?

Thanks!
