Yes, they do.

Some use this spring to hold the friction plates together, others have a high load on it so that you have some locking without throttle power.

 

My TR4 has a friction plate LSD which acts like an open diff if you lift the wheels. You can turn each side independently.

As soon you give it some throttle power it starts locking. More power = harder locking.

 

The LSD on the TR8 Ford axle is called Yukon Posi.

It has some preload that 200 Nm can’t turn one side. But somehow I have the impress that the inside wheel does spin.

 

So I think a LSD with ramps would be a better choice.

If this is not available, maybe a worm gear LSD would do?

All the friction plate LSDs that I found have a pre-load spring, including the Ford 8".
