Strongest solution is when the area where the feet are located are a bit lower than the friction area of the flywheel : then the PP is strongly located and eventually the shims should be trimmed . When the flywheel is entirily flush, the location of the PP is less secure. 
If hard steel shims are used, I think this will not be a weak spot?

I’m curious about Glen’s comment on shimming the pressure plate. I’ve done that in this situation, using small thin hardened washers. Seemed to work fine, but that was a seat of the pants gotta-load-this-thing-tomorrow-and-go-racing sort of fix. Anyone think that solution is a disaster in the making?

I agree with Marcel’s last email. If the fingers point inward, your clutch disc is too thick, indicating that the disc and Pressure Plate are incompatible. 


Best solution is to get a thinner disc or a compatible PP.

So we don't agree; maybe, if the fingers end up flat after tightening, it still can be normal, but if they are pointing inwards a bit, it is not correct. You can made a decision by measuring how much the fingers are moving inward when tightening the bolts : if it is more than 3 mm it is not correct and the feel in the clutch pedal won't be normal eather.

All perfectly normal. 


Just be sure that the throwout bearing is compatible with the “fingers.” If the fingers are straight the throwout bearing face should be rounded. If the fingers have a crook in them (bent) then the throwout bearing face should be flat.

Hey Friends 





just installed a new to me (rebuilt) laycock PP and a new clutch disc. As I tightened the PP the fingers ended up pretty much flat across, no longer peaked. So when the hydraulics is engaged the throw out will press the clutch fingers deflecting inward (invert from when on the bench). Makes me uncomfortable / doesn't seem right. 





Normal / Correct?
