Ha!  My dad had a Renault Dauphine before I was born.   Before he bought his 356.  The Dauphine was NOT his favorite car, but it generated some great stories.

One day he went "rocketing" away from a stoplight and up an on ramp.  He was pulled over by a cop and accused of speeding.  He pulled out his pink slip and offered it to the cop, telling him to take the car back to the stoplight and if he could get it up to "speeding" speeds at the top of the on ramp, he could have it.  He got off without a ticket.

The Dauphine died on top of a rock pile at the end of a farm field in the Kettle Moraine (a hilly, twisty bit of southeastern Wisconsin where the glaciers dumped their load at the end of their run - where Road America is located).  Dad had a tendency to drive pretty close to the limit in whatever he was driving there, whether he liked the car or not.  The Duaphine slid wide off the road and up onto a rock pile, taking out most of the undercarriage and holing the sump and the fuel tank.  He was worried it was maybe not totaled enough, so he flicked his cigarette butt into it and also burned to the ground.

Dad was kind of a badass back in the day.
