Thanks, Bill.  I knew there was a reason I held on to this stuff for all these years.

Was cleaning out a closet this afternoon and came across some of my old race programs from The Glen.  Specifically, I came across the program for the "Glen 500" in 1964 (picture attached).  For some reason, the entry lists were printed in red, and didn't come out very well when I tried to take a picture.  I did get a couple of shots of the entry list for the Glen 500 race, the first one of the entire list, and the second one a close-up of the first few cars.
I draw your attention to the Co-driver of car #4, a Jaguar XK-140 in D Production.  Yes, that's right, it was Janet Guthrie, of Great Neck, NY.  Sorry for the eye test, but if you look closely you will see some other familiar names in there.
Also fun to note the variety of cars in the race:  Corvettes & Cobras, lots of TR-4's and Healys, Jag E-Types and the 140, an AC Bristol, a Lotus (Super 7?), Elva Courier, Daimler SP250 (saw 3 of those last weekend in a "Barn Find" here in NC), a Porsche and an Abarth Simca.  How's that for a vintage race grid?

Hi Bill.  That's totally consistent with everything I have heard.  I never met her, just had that brief encounter in the pits in 1964.  She never got out of the car!

Five years ago at the Indy Brickyard Invitational (I sent them a check for $795 and they invited me!) I had the distinct pleasure of buying lunch for her and a friend of mine who knew her. What a gracious intelligent humorous and wonderful person she was. We had a great chat and then she said sorry guys I have to go do an interview.

Great memory. Also the best $795 I ever spent!

Cheers Bill

Here's another Pit Stop funny from Watkins Glen.  In 1964, The Glen held the first annual Glen 500 (500 Kilometers), race for A, B, C and D production cars.  I was working for the local radio station (WCLI), so I was able to get a "restricted" pit pass.  Because I was under 18, I couldn't get full access to the pits, but I was able to get close enough that I could sneak in without being noticed.  Unfortunately, my Driver's Ed teacher at the time was working on the pit crew in one of the pits I walked right past.  He said "you're not supposed to be here".
Just then, in the middle of the race, his car pulled into the pits unexpectedly.  It was a blue XK120 (or 140?).  My teacher went up to the driver, who said something.  He then threw his arms up in the air, said something back to the driver, and sent the car on its way.  When he came back, I asked him what that was all about.  He said, "she said I have no oil pressure, at which I responded, that gauge hasn't worked all day!"
I love her as a driver and person, but this joke was on Janet Guthrie.

Then there was the famous Ferrari pit stop in the USGP in the late 60's. It was kind of a cluster situation and when all was said and done they had put the flat tire back on! A photographer pointed it out to the team.

Times have changed.

Cheers Bill
