My father had a 1947 Cheve pickup that was his daily driver and I could us it any time I wanted to. You say, what has that got to do with sports cars? Well I will tell you. I was planning to go to the races at Watkins Glen in 1952 and planned to sleep overnight before the race. As I had been to the race in 1951 and wanted to do things different this time. I scouted up some metal rods from the oil field, that we lived in, and bent them into hoops to make a covered wagon top on the Cheve. So off my buddy and I went off to the race. You race historians will remember that the race in 1952 was the last race through town and the race was stopped after a child was hit and killed on Main Street. So the sleeping facility worked well but the race viewing turned out to be a bust.
