Great to see you Chuck! What a fabulous weekend, moderately cool temps and bright sun made for superb racing conditions. A couple Triumph racers showed up for the first time for the Wild Hare, we were graced by the presence of Jerry Barker and his Herald, plus Team Sukey came with the Spitfire and GT6. All the regulars came and ran well, but the next time you see John Hasty be sure to ask him about losing his brakes for turn one! By the time we saw him, he had changed his shorts and most of the color came back to him, but it sounded like a scary ride for sure! Thankfully VIR installed a gravel trap that saved him from the tire wall, so the TR3 was unscathed. From the preliminary report is sounds like it was a Carbotech brake pad failure, hmmm. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... As a result my beloved little 1964 Spitfire and a spare (restorable) parts car is for sale. The car has been with VARA for many years and is very competitive in F Production. Kevin Ayers won the VARA FP championship with this car in 2016. I purchased the car from Joe Siam at checkered flag racing in 2019, and got the car cleaned up, added a new seat cover, new sparco steering wheel, new MDS ignition, and some other odds and ends, a few nice cosmetic upgrades and I raced it for a year, with a few class wins. In 2020 I had Joe freshen up the motor, the first race with the new motor it was in a small tangle, then covid hit and slowed racing down, so I took the time I replaced the front suspension components with new solid trunnion uprights from canely, all new ball joints, rebuilt the calipers with new stainless caliper pistons and seals and new Porterfield pads new front grill repaired the body work, wrinkle painted the dash. The car got put back together and raced a few more times in 2021 with some new Hoosier R7s and a new slave cylinder new harness/belts and scored a class win at buttonwillow. Most recently the car was ran at the big bore bash at willow springs in an excellent wheel to wheel race with Joes red spitfire driven by Steve Meline where we crossed the finish line 2 tenths of a second apart. The car is fantastic and ready to go. It has been super reliable and just works. Flat out though turn 9! It?s a racer not a perfect show car, but it sure photographs well, and gets the job done. The project/parts car is also a 1964 spitfire with factory hard top. The car was complete, and has been stripped in preparation for a frame off restoration. I have two spare motors, a couple of spare gear boxes. Loads of other spare parts. Alloy bellhousing and boxes of new rebuild parts for the motor. It is currently on a non op title and can be restored or kept for parts. I love this car, it?s my first racecar and will always be special to me. At my first race I was honored to meet Kas Kastner who shook my hand wished me luck and signed my car. I would be happy to talk your ear off about it show it off. But I have a strong desire to race Formula Ford and can?t afford both.. If you have a FF that you would be interested in trading for the spitfires, I can add whatever makes up the difference if necessary. I also might be able to bring the spitfire to willow springs for the hill climb this weekend if you are interested in checking it out. I live in Tehachapi, so I?m only about 30 minutes from Willow springs. I am asking 12k for both cars and all the parts. I really don?t want to split them up if I can help it. My engine is fully prepped and ran an OEM pump with no issues for years. I now rebuilt this OEM pump with a new seal, resurfaced the face where the seal spins, cleaned and repacked the bearings with water proof grease and off we go for another 50 years. The problem with the stock repro pumps is that they may have slightly smaller vanes in the impeller (I noticed this on pumps sold by Moss in the 90s). This severely impacts the flow. And at $30-50 each manufactured overseas you cannot expect much of close tolerances, steel shaft quality, etc. Increased flow may actually not be an improvement : the greater flow (if it effectively is greater) may create cavitation and /or turbulences and air pockets, thus effectively reducing the cooling. I experienced this in a Lotus Esprit engine where the previous owner had increased the speed of the pump by fitting a smaller pulley. And remember : the great Kas Kastner himself was running fully prepped engines with the stock pump (as far as I know). Cheers to all and have a great racing season ! I was planning on building a Spit six at some point but my interests have moved away from small frame Triumphs. This stuff has been squirrelled away for years and some of it I haven't looked at for a long time so going off memory here, a summary of what I have: 70 GT6+ frame: has front and rear suspension intact (rotoflex). Rear spring and diff are not included. Frame is rust free and has been stored inside. One outrigger is bent but the frame is straight. Front spindles: L & R front spindles GT6+ Bonnet: 70 GT6+ bonnet that the DPO attempted to install fiberglass fender flares. Top section and frame is really decent, fenders are compromised from the wheel flare attempt Rear clip: rear clip from b-pillar back, roof was cut. Rear hatch and glass are intact. Rear Hatch: additional rear hatch w/glass various other GT6 parts lying about: radiators, gas tank, some interior pieces, seat frames, door glass and frames, rear side glass and frames, dash pad, gauges, switches, wiring harness. All parts located in Western Maine. I could potentially get them as far as Hartford CT if you are not in a rush. some of the smaller bits could be delivered to the 2022 Kasner Cup. Contact me at tim at pennridgemotors.com for more details. These parts are from my personal stash and not associated with my business. Please help my spring cleaning project! I'm trying to convert my dad's GT6 Mk I racer to rotoflex and need some A-arms for that. Scott (B.) From: Fot On Behalf Of Tim Hutchisen via Fot Sent: Thursday, April 28, 2022 7:52 AM To: 'FOT List' ; 'Triumphs' Cc: Penn Ridge Motors Subject: [Fot] GT6+ parts available I have been spring cleaning and have some parts from a 70 GT6+ parts car that need a good home. Also looking for two of the "cones" used to hold the brake drum in place. Asking for a friend (Tony Thompson, copied on this email) who needs it for his early Lotus 7. Please copy him on your response and deal direct.
